It will be easier to get message out in cities/towns etc but then difficult to evacuate large numbers so suppose both remote and built up areas have difficulties a you say not helped by fact it's 2am. Hopefully the USA has resources to get folk to safety. Can any wave potentially subside or once it's there is it inevitable to hit land?
Is that from the same 3D model series as the Durham Cathedral one @Epping posted yesterday? Do they do a post-tsunami version? I reckon I could build that one easier, just hoy the pieces around a bit and sprinkle a watering can on them.

It depends on how much energy there is in a wave - this one appears to be huge and it is likely to reach land but it is possible that its strength might have dissipated by then. At this stage however they obviously can't be sure so they have to assume that it will hit land with some force and act on that basis. Fingers crossed that it will be fairly small when it reaches the coast.

I remember some of the video's of the Tsunami in Japan, where some people are just standing on the beach wondering where the water was disappearing to, not realising that it would come back with vengeance. Poor souls.

You would hope people now in areas likely to be hit are now a lot more aware due to that awful event. They seem to be getting message out however as said before there will be a canny few people living in remote areas so hope they r aware

The US National Weather Service says a warning is in effect for the coasts of Alaska and British Columbia, while the US west coast is on tsunami watch.
But the tsunami watch for the islands of Hawaii and Guam has been cancelled.
Officials in Anchorage warned coastal areas, saying there was "extraordinary threat to life or property".
