Troy Deeney £25m

Look at the players going for about £10m in the Championship, Jordan Rhodes, Andre Gray, Ross McCormak, etc.

£3m is what you find down the back of the sofa for PL clubs, have you been living in a cave the last 20 years?

Diego Costa & Martial got less goals than Defoe last year as well.

Fewer.

The problem I reckon is that the crazy prices in the PL will trickle into the rest of Europe as clubs know English teams can afford to pay daft prices.

I think good scouts and a good DOF will be essential for English clubs over the coming seasons likewise being able to scout cheap players in South America like clubs in Portugal and Spain have done well down the years.

I dred to think how much Southampton will take us for if Koeman goes back in for some of their players.
This's been going on for some time now and about to get even more extreme.

Lucky you, it would have been a waste of that kind of money. Go abroad and you could get a quality player for that.

I actually think Deeney is a good player who would have improved us but £32m for a 28 year old who can't get an England cap?

Absolutely ridiculous, outside England there aren't many players in world football you can't get for £32m. I'd much rather take my chances with a foreign player for half that money.

I like him as well but I think we can all agree that amount of money would be better spent elsewhere.

Sky was reporting the deal as 20M. And that may include clauses.

Why the shock? We paid 12m, reported as being more with add ons for Fletcher and that was 4 years ago. We sold Darren Bent further back for 18M min, rising to 24m. (doubt it rose that much) 5 years ago. Deeney is the 9th best scorer in the league, and gets more assists than most of those who score more - all in a lower-half team, and while working with a striker partner who was also scoring at an impressive rare.

True, it's silly money - but surely we're used to clubs being prepared to spend this sort of cash by now.
