True. That's if he has that many more years in him though. Smoker argued he has a Test average of 50, but that's in the past. His average in the home series was 29, well below par for a number 3 Test batsman. So I just feel that I'd like us to look elsewhere.

It's impossible to say just how long he'll have left, but I liken his position to that of Carberry's. Most people think he's too old to have a future with England and being a similar age to Trott I apply the same logic in that instance. Granted, Trott's international pedigree is streets ahead, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

If he's picked in the summer and scores 800 runs against Sri Lanka and India then I'll admit I was wrong.

if - and it's is a big if of course - he gets back to his old self i'd like to see him back and providing experience and grit to the top order alongside cook [if he gets back in nick too] whilst root settles in to opening. assuming this goes to plan then sam robson i think will be the future in that number 3 spot.

it would probably be a bit much to have 2 of the top 3 young inexperienced, but once root is settled in then bringing in robson would be easier...

Haway man, he was great in India and NZ last winter. Loads of our batsmen have looked crap against the aussies

Big difference with Carberry and Trott is that Trott has proved it.

The great think with Trott is that he always looks composed at the crease and untroubled by the antics of bowlers and fielders. He plays the game at his pace and in his own style. You can't kock his recent success.

you're a few months late with this observation mind

As I stated in my post that you quoted [DOUBLEPOST=1388912802][/DOUBLEPOST]

Last winter was ages away though...... So because Ian Botham was class in the 80's do you think he should be in the squad for Sri Lanka?

Flawed logic that. His current form is shite and you've got to pick a side based on form to a degree.

So you're not only equating Carberry and Trott, but saying 1 year ago is the same as 30.

I thought you were one of the more knowledgeable cricket fans on here, but you're talking NOMOREFALSEDAWNS crazy talk.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Trott unfortunately will now be a marked man. Only a matter of time before another team gets into his head.

That's Cook, Pietersen and Trott out then and Bell has a stay of execution as it was way back in the summer that he had any form?

it depends what he has and how effectively it can be treated. Trott has recognized he has a problem and is getting treatment, players like Cook are the ones to worry about. England play more tests than any other test nation, I suspect many players are feeling burnout.

How permanent though? It isn't everlasting is it?

You've taken what I said way out of context regarding the 30 years thing.

Look, I can't be arsed to get into the ins and outs of it all but the OP asked the question and in my opinion I don't think Trott should play for England this summer.[DOUBLEPOST=1388939564][/DOUBLEPOST]There's also the saying 'you're only as good or bad as your last performance' so it depends which cliche you want to use ;)
