It's for the best for him to be frank. What would have been better for him would have been not to have taken him on that tour at all. He did a great job with the Lions, he could have continued that for another year maybe.

Moores making him opener wont have helped
I don't know my cricket that well , but Moores seems a complete idiot. Poor selections and decisions time after time. It's so frustrating. Might pretend i support a team that deserves to be the best in the world and behave like them and get me bedsheets out and that.

I was one who suggested he deserved a chance back at Test level and I don't regret saying that as I believe he had a good season. His innings up at Durham last season was class. He's one of those players I haven't got a bad word to say about. I wish him well for the future apart from when he's up against Durham

Cheers Trotty.

well said, class act who had to call it a day sadly.

Step up Adam Lyth

Great servant for England. Shame about his last 2 tours, but as had been said he should be remembered for his years of great batting.

Good luck

I had no problem with him coming back to play for England but things had moved on in the middle order and he should never have opened. Was brilliant for a few years, especially in that series down under. As you say, good luck to him in whatever he does now, I hope these last few months have reassured him that he's over or knows how to deal with his troubles.

Should never have been brought back. Wise move from him

Has retired before he was retired. Would have been good to have someone who has already been playing... maybe Moores is thinking of Bell at the top of the order?

Why did he play in Barbados if he'd decided he was retiring after Grenada?

I noticed him wiping away a tear when they hit the winning runs yesterday. Don't think he should ever have got an England cap but glad he got out on his own terms.

It's a really odd one. He isn't a bad coach as he displayed at LCC, getting them the CC for the first time in 77 years and has won the CC three times as coach which can't be sniffed at. Seems like he just can't replicate this at International level.

Good decision from Trott and at least he knows by getting a chance in the West Indies he was no longer up to the job which will probably help him mentally. Can now enjoy a few seasons scoring runs in the no pressure back water of county cricket.

he peaked during the 2010/11 ashes and was an excellent team player. he has unfortunately sufered a terrible illness and i wish him nothing but happiness in his future
