My aunt lived in Annie Street. Those wooden cooling towers were extremely scary to a 5 year old.As a kid I lived in one of the cottages a few yards from it's main entrance. Mam used to send us in to nick the duff coal. A lorry driver who tried to drive his wagon in with the back raised was killed there when it brought the huge stone lintel down on his cab.
