Best bet is to walk over the new bridge and head straight for Sunderland station. Since the bridge opened people are just walking there and avoiding queues at stadium of light, so now you have 2/3 trains arriving at the station already at crush load and turning people away.
They won’t be doing any kind of crowd control at Sunderland station as it’s ran by northern rail instead of nexus, and there won’t be any extra trains as there’s been a fault at the sidings at Sunderland station all season that won’t be fixed until next month at the earliest.
