Lads, I was thinking of going to York for the day on BH Monday from Sunderland, Seaham or Durham but the prices seem extortionate.

As some of you may be frequent rail users are there any networks that do deals, cheaper fares etc.

I really don't use the rail so have little idea how to go on.

Cheers

Eddie

Sorted, my PC skills just kicked in, excellent info. thanks to all who replied

ya welcome - tbh it takes 1h 33 which, by the time you travel from Sunderland to Newcastle, then to York, is properly a little quicker

£23.70 according to thetrainline.com, and half the time than going from Sunderland.

fcuk the trainline.com .. grandcentral's own site states £17 return. guess it depends where OP is from, but I'd rather pay £17 then £23.70

Its worth the extra 6 quid just for the fact that you can catch at least 2 trains an hour and the ticket is unrestricted. Grand Central only run 3 or 4 a day and they're prone to a failure now and again.

Like i said, they run about 2 trains an hour, plus there is Cross Country services aswell. If something goes wrong, you're not waiting around for too long. If Grand Central cancel, or you miss the train, you're faced with a 4 hour wait.

But if something goes wrong with Grand Central then the tickets are usually accepted on other trains.

And Grand central is our trainline so support it, use it or lose it as they say
