Top 6

Don't get me wrong, you have a point but I have had 40 years of false dawns, and we got our fingers burned badly predicting an easy win at St James. I just think we should show a little more restraint before we start bigging them up again. If we are still 6-8 by christmas I will start to believe that the improvement we have seen is more permanent. All this talk of Europe will be bumped by the mags on here if the wheels come off in the next couple of weeks.

I know what you're saying mate, I've done 40m years and no sign of parole yet ......... all I'm saying is that there's no actual reason we can't win a cup or finish top 8.

This is the first time I've ever trusted the club and if we can't do something with the set up we have now we may as well give up.

Give in and believe, you know you want to ;)

Chelsea were 'shite' on Sunday but will still win the league.

Villa were beaten 6-0 but will still be looking at Europe.
Arsenal were battered, at home, by West Brom, but will finish top 4.

The only thing to stop Sunderland finishing top 6 is us.
We have a great squad, have already played 9 of last season's top 10 and have a fantastic team spirit despite the derby shambles.

I'm prepared to throw off years of pessimism and believe.
Perhaps if we all did the club & players would get the message and fulfill their potential .......... I believe ;)

Totally agree mate.

We have the personnel to finish 6th in this year's version of the PL. It's true that everything will have to go right: us having few injuries, the lads stay hungry and don't get their heads turned, Bent and Gyan forming a telepathic partnership, and we get a few breaks in close games. But it is possible. And I have this strange feeling the lads just might pull it off.

The attitude of the team seems to be changing, and the last two matches have seen our shape THE MOST ORGANIZED BY FAR I've seen in a Sunderland side for the past several years.

I think a new day may be dawning, but only time will tell.:-D

PS Let the magic Gyan dance spread to all the squad as the goals start pouring in!

We are somewhere in between the loss at Newcastle and the win at Chelsea.

I really hope some people are not going to be expecting that performance at Chelsea to become the norm, they will be in for a big dissapointment.

A little slump is chance to come along with we least expect it

Would still be more than happy with 10th myself

Can we get top 6?

I think it is very achievable tbh. Liverpool are shite, City are shite.

we have a great chance! Europe awaits!!! :-D:-D

cannit wait for gyan to start banging em in against the likes of juve and that.
:)

no chance

our away form is shite (aside from chelsea)

happy to be proven wrong, but id put 100 quid down that we wont be in the top 6 come the end of the season

Man Ciy, Man Utd, Chelsea, Aresnal, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton and Aston Villa have better squads than us at present I would say.

Would be over the moon with 9 or 10th myself

me too

but ... it must include three points at home against the mags

I think the top 5 will be away and gone, IMO being chelsea, man united, arsenal, spurs and man city.
I do think that we could well be in with the next group if we keep our form going, I don't know what order as such but I hope us 6th and then Aston Villa, Liverpool and Everton who I think we will be nip and tuck with all season.
Everton being the one who I think could have the worst year of those 9 teams IMO.

My disclaimer for this being we need maintain our recent rich vein of form in the away day department.

HAWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ffs, we were shite a couple of weeks ago up the road. Come back in a few weeks when we know which team has turned up consistently then we might be able to predict our end of season position a little better. Talk about deluded.

Back to back wins would be nice.

Id bet a grand (or more) with anyone that we wouldn't be top 6 at the end of the season (as long the money was put down up front so I could then lay it off on betfair at 5/1)

Not even the OP was saying we will be top 6.

"Can we get top 6?

If we've arrived at a point where fans can't dream or hope then it's all pointless, which may actually be sadly true as far as ever winning the Premier League is concerned.

However, for the life of me I can't see any actual difference between SAFC and clubs like Fulham, Everton, Villa, Bolton etc, all of whom have finished above us.

Whether it's this season or next, as some have said, we have to not only hope but have some belief and demonstrate to the players that we're fully behind them.

white text mate!!. Id love to finish top 6 and believe me, Im dreaming about it.

I actually agree with you for once. I think Liverpool, Villa and Everton are not what they were and Spurs will suffer cos of their European commitments. Why not dream?. Why f***ing not.

Sorry mate, I never look at white text ........ I'm in my 50's and using a computater is at the cutting edge for me like ;)

Sign Charlie Insomnia in january, and we will have a shout at it.

Victor Chandler would pay you 6/1 for a Top 6 finish

Liverpool, Everton and Villa are reckoned to have a better chance and you can't argue with that, historically.

But I think what people on this thread and others are saying is that there are significant changes happening before our eyes. The question is whether or not we can maintain consistency and momentum. That is the gamble.

Players like Gyan, Nedum, Elmo, Danny etc. were not around to experience the downside and the basis for scepticism and negativity. That should not enter their consciousness. They only know what they have seen this season, like the ability to win at SB.

Every chance of coming good this season.

Could do without idiotic contributions like this setting us up for a fall

Be fair mate, any post covered in 'smilies' and 'ifs' isn't exactly shouting the odds isn't it? :-D It's just a bit of harmless fun ;) The lad says 'we have a chance' Don't we?

What difference does one punter putting a post on the internet, in the week after we demolished Chelsea, do with anything?
exactly. I can just see Bruces post match interview after we lose to Everton.

"Well the lads were buzzing after the Chelsea game and I was certain we'd win tonight but then someone posted that we might finish top 6 on the SMB and the pressure was just too much, you know"
