"Tony Mowbray pays the price for overachieving with young'uns."

TM was good with kids and had an excellent first season. That's unarguable - but she's making him sound like a cross between Bielsa and Pep in that article.

And

"Sunderland had applied data-driven metrics to identify up-and-coming coaches and the 34-year-old Farioli’s statistics looked good. It seemed Mowbray’s real world experience, not to mention human skills, did not count for quite so much."

Is absolute bollocks. Data will measure outcomes, a player or manager's behaviours as well as technical skills will drive outcomes and so be reflected in data.

I doubt Mowbray would have Nice in 2nd place in ligue 1 either

Balanced, fair article that's bang on, however, once Mowbray spoke out after the Millwall game it was only gonna end one way. You cant sign up to be a head coach and be on board with "the model" then speak out against it.
.. Some truth in that, though I think if he was worried about getting results with too many inexperienced kids it would be hard to keep stup when his reputation is on the line ..

It's mad. He's a nice enough bloke, but people don't half let their hearts rule their heads with him. He's made a career out of being a middle of the road, second tier manager. If you have any expectations or hopes of pushing beyond that point, he's proven for years and years that he isn't going to be your man.

He took a squad that was good enough to reach the playoffs, and qualified for them. Great, job done. Now he's built that level of expectation, he's been found tactically wanting time and time again, blaming anyone and everything but his own tactics and decisions.

He hit his glass ceiling.
Has he been blaming anyone and everything? He needed a decent DM to cover a long term injury. Same with the CF. It’s crippled the team. Put those two in place and the story could have been a lot different.

Did he actually speak out against the “Model” or implicitly call for a bit of balance?

Anyone at the match could see how bringing on a couple of more experienced heads improved the balance and control of the team

A kamikaze policy of playing a team composed only of 20 year olds will come unstuck - probably on a cold afternoon at places like the Den

Question is whether we fans have the patience to wait for results and the team to settle down?

We didn’t overachieve last season. This is a total myth. Mowbray had the tools to do the job and even due to injuries made a mess of selection which resulted in a poor home form.It was clear that the second half against Burnley that we needed to change to counter their attacks down the right. Mowbray was far too slow to respond to the other teams tactics.Where was his tactical nous in the playoffs when we all knew Luton would bully us at their dump? Would we have been any worse than Luton or Sheffield Utd in the PL?
People have fallen for Mowbray’s poor me comments.Prior to his appointment he was hanging around the club. He was brought in to develop the young players and his recent comments undermine this.
We need to move on as we did after the last excuse merchant jumped ship
This, we didn't overacheive.
This is the team we put out against Coventry first game of the season.

Patterson
Cirkin
Ballard
Baath
Gooch
Evans
Embleton
Neil
Stewart
Clarke

O'nien, Roberts, Bass, Wright, Hume, Alese, Simms.

On top of that Amad came in on loan.

Look at the bench they'd all get in our side now (some are) bar Bass.

If that squad was overacheiving our current squad must be relegation candidates.(I'm not saying they are)

Were you confident that we would make the play offs. I know most on here weren’t. Of course we over achieved.

.. That isn't a bad team. Wish we still could field a team with that strength ..

That side would beat our current side.

I always got the impression he took the job because it was local to his home and it suited both parties. The crack about clubs not wanting to send their young players here anymore is total bollocks as we were attracting them long before Mowbray turned up..in reality Mowbray started to make noise because it was going wrong on the pitch and he couldn't sort it out...

I think its a shite article. Our aim of developing new talent hasn't changed, the new coach will have to sign into this same mantra. Talking about his integrity, like in public stating none of the 4 signings were ready, Ekwah needs a slap, Hemir is last to turn up for training then first to leave. It must have delighted Chelsea to here that as it was Mowbray that allegedly was the reason Burstow was loaned here. She fails to mention our form, his lack of ability to react and change formation and his scatterbook substitutions. Picking Seelt playing out of position then dropping him from the squad the following day. His unwillingness not to move O'Nien out of the CB role as we are leaking easily preventable goals and he is involved in most of them.

Apart from that its a canny read
And that's even more bollocks.

Agreed, simple enough he lost his way, and the blame game started.

He mastered his own downfall. His tactics seem us going from high tempo high press game to slow predictable side ways and backwards merchants. Him playing this inverted FB nonsense contributed massively to his sacking. Crowded the middle of the park. Left a huge gap in defence. Confused the actual CMs when he did drift back to fullback. Wingers isolated and expected to beat 3 or 4 men. It was a mess and even worse when the subs came on.

You are quite entitled to your opinion but please explain why you think it is manure with a coherent argument...........You would not expect me to say Blyth is a shithole full of Morons if I had not visited the place.....

Good Point you make and indeed How do we know that any of the assumptions and statements on here are Correct until as they say the fat lady sings.

Only Time will tell whether the assumptions are correct (which I think they are) or Not.....
No you’re the one making bold statements saying we’re a risky club for PL clubs to send their up and coming players. Please explain how?

I’m not from Blyth ya dafty

Did Mowbray write that? Might as well be a CV!
Moggas not going to find it difficult to get his next role in the game . A really good article worth reading imo. Lets hope the wheels dont fall off our " youth policy ". We could end up struggling the rest of the season . No one seems to be considering the damage this might do for the young lads in the squad (like departed Amad) They clearly blossomed under Mowbrays coaching experience and general mentoring. Big pressure on Speakman and KLD now.
