The Irish will take it a lot more seriously than us and will probably win 1-0.

We are. 12 page pull out in the Star this morning. People calling it a massive game. TBH, I couldn't care. If we beat England, we only beat them in a end of season friendly. Means nowt.

In saying that the average person hasn't got a clue about the match tonight over here.

More or less universal apathy at the though of a 'home'-ish international even if its a friendly.

Speaks volumes to me about how the mighty £/$ has reduced the game to the club football, corporate sponsorship nowt else matters level. Sky and it football overload is to blame.

Looks like we'll never again see Wembley's goal posts being tore down or trains full of marauding pissheids emptying out at Queens St/Kings Cross/Cardiff Central. Or Larne ferry port full of windmilling ne'er do wells.

Not like there is Premier League or Champions League football to watch.

Surely England vs Ireland is much better than nothing?

Not really mate. I've never had an interest in international footy. Think the last England match I watched was the SKP match. TBH I rarely watch any footy that doesn't include safc.

I bet you lot are shitting bricks.

The press over here are trying to make a big deal out of it. A lot of my mates are falling for the 'it's not a friendly when you play England' but it is. I'll watch it as there's nothing else on the telly box. But I think people are a little be sick of football now. We had the climax of the end of season games, cup finals and play-offs. This is an anti-climax. Plus international football isn't the same as it use to be. The club game is the be all and end all now.

Nothing is bigger than the World Cup.

Will you be throwing seats and singing 'The Fields of Athenry'?:lol:

For £55 a ticket, I'll be looking to bring the seat home with me.;)

That's a good point. I'm kind of fed up with football now. Sometimes a break is good because you look forward to it more when the new season starts. Plus after the last couple of weeks of big games this is an anti-climax.

Is that how much the robbing bastards are charging?? Fuck me, I'd want the seat and my picture took with the team for that sort of money for a friendly.

Wembley must be well and truly in the red to have to charge them prices. No the wonder they'll put any event on they can get.

If this was a Premier League match it would be Arsenal vs Stoke City.

I'll be watching it like. The atmosphere will be crap (the Wembley crowd for England games are a dull lot by and large, loads just sat doing nothing and even worse are the jester hat types trying to start a mexican wave 10 minutes into an important qualifier as they were recently) and that's why I don't bother making the journey down but its a good excuse to watch some football and have a few pints- since the season finished I've just been watching films most nights, this is a definite improvement even though I wish we had a qualifier rather than just a friendly.

Still think its daft having so long between competitive games mind, couple of games in March (one of which was only against San Marino so basically a training match) and then nowt til September. I think this is partly why people don't get into it - I support England and SAFC (although if I had to pick just one it would always be Sunderland) but I found it difficult to get interested in the last qualifiers, they came right when I was busy worrying about Sunderland. I then started getting anxious after the Montenegro match and wanted to see us have another competitive game but then had to go back to worrying about Sunderland.

Should just get rid of international weeks, finish the season earlier and then play the internationals in one batch at the end of the season - it would mean that you could concentrate on watching your club side week in week out without interruption and then have a good bit of time to get properly into watching the national side. Obviously plenty still wouldn't bother with England but it would be more appealing if all the years games were crammed into about 6 weeks rather than being spread out over the season.

Despite being just a teenager, I was in the England end in 95'. Its still by far the worst trouble/atmosphere I've ever experienced at a football match. Thank fuck things have moved on

Tonight's match means nowt, hence the lack of interest.
