You've fallen into the trap. Put simply, they don't. They aren't even part of the American Federal Reserve (another false accusation often thrown at them). They've been significant, yes, but no more so than other investment banks.

You’re the one who’s fallen into A trap. These are your issues, not his. Attaching a point of view that isn’t held then judging the individual by other people’s behavior.

I think we are over-estimating the intelligence of the average footballer here.

Ignorance isn't a defence TBF. He's said something that, whatever you think about it, plays on the anti-semetic myth that a Jewish family control the world's finances and would look to exploit a third world war. Whatever the fuck that means anyway...

He needs to be accountable for what he said as he's responsible for it. No fucker else. The fact that he's clearly thick as fuck is irrelevant and no defence IMO. He needs to own his mistake.
Wayne Hennessey didnt know who Hitler was so I reckon this lad'll be fine.

That's a very fair point and a dangerous precedent that the FA have set TBH.

Apart from the fact that the Rothschilds are Jewish, and the fantasy that Jews control world finance is a well known anti-Semitic and fascist metaphor. It's about as blatant as it gets.

The fact that you had to explain the subject of his tweet were Jewish and the anti-Semitic trope behind it, demonstrates it really isn’t as blatant as it gets.

I dont think it is. It's all about context isnt it. I dont think he thought about 'fascist metaphors' at all when he tweeted that (although of course it is used as such). His point here is that wars are engineered at the behest of the banks and the billionaires. A perfectly reasonable point, which he's entitled to make. He may be guilty therefore of clumsiness, but not of anti-semitism.

Or some people are just wilfully ignorant and or choose to look the other way.

I wouldn't say so. The Rothschilds have been heavily involved in world banking for nigh on 200 years. It may or may not have had anti-semitic undertones.
Like a lot of things mate, it depends which way you want to see it. Were I Jewish I think I’d get the hump about it. I’m not but it still worries me that after everything it still happens.
This Pope geezer is just as thick as shit and is best ignored. He’s not dangerous, just a dickhead. But there are others who are more dangerous. And not so stupid.

Interesting that this has automatically been labelled as 'anti-semitic'. I'm well aware of the connotations that the Rothschild name brings up, as well as the anti-semitic trope that has evolved over the years, but it does actually bring up an interesting question. Does criticising somebody who happens to be Jewish mean that that is automatically anti-semitic?

For example, there is one very well known comedian who over the years has grated on me. He's been a famous name in this country for over a quarter of a century, and has had his most famous successes as part of two different double acts. He's even had a very well known football related song reach number one in the charts a number of times, that he wrote and sang with his equally as famous comedy partner.

Now, the reason why he grates on me is because I believe that he has consistently shown over the years that he was the less talented part of not one, but two successful comedy acts, and he does come across sometimes as a bit of a cocky know-it-all. In the past, he has criticised others for picking on famous people for how they look, yet one of his most famous skits was taking the mickey out of a well-known, not-very-good Premier League striker who was famous in the 1990's. So for this, I also think he is a hypocrite.

These are the reasons why I happen to dislike this person. Not hate. Dislike.

But this person also happens to be Jewish.

Does this make me anti-semitic? Or, more reasonably, do I just dislike a person simply because of the content of what I perceive to be his character?

Also whilst maybe irrelevant I guess it's a probability the Family also own the Famous Lafite Rothschild wine estate in Bordeaux, which is how I would associate the name before I would from the banking world , I am sure comments have been made extolling the virtues of their superior winemaking ....would those comments be anti semetic...I highly doubt it..

What a load of shit to suggest that is anti-Semitic

Anti-semitism is often insidious and difficult to identify.

However, if you can't see that this particular tweet is anti-semitic then you need to f***ing educate yourself, I'm afraid.

No. Obviously not, fucks sake this place man.

Glad some people can see it. Flabbergasted and worried by this thread.

That's what he said, can't you read?

The Nazis repeatedly used this exact trope and they weren't the first either. There are way more successful and powerful investment banks that are not Jewish-owned, yet people always use this Jewish one to make this point about 'finance' even despite the way it's been used - literally by the Nazis - in the past.So yeah, I'd say they probably would get the hump about it.

I need to educate myself, ok pal, I dint think it is anti Semitic, I do believe the news control a large part of the world, banks etc, is tgat anti Semitic too??? I know a few Jewish people that agree with me. Most Jewish people would laugh and most likely agree with what Tom Pope has said. Since I am too thick to realise that it's not anti Semitic, would you care to explain why you thunk it is??? And what worries you about this thread
, that some of us are not snowflakes that are easily offended like yourself, people like yourself are becoming part of the problem.

That’s what I was alluding to but didn’t have time to go into detail. Once this shit is normalised or written off, well we all know what happened last time. Seems some have short memories or are still looking the other way.

Nah...I'm not a great fan of David Baddiel either.

Not anti-semitic, just don't think he's very funny.

My 1st thought when I read the tweet is not one of anti-semitism, it’s one of him naming a canny rich family name.

Depends on which way you think as you whether you wish to infer anti-semitism here. As with all comments, if you scratch enough you’ll always find someone who finds something wrong with them. My personal opinion is it’s not anti-Semitic
I really don’t get how it’s anti Semitic. The slur is against the family not the whole Jewish continuity

That was my take as well. Them being Jewish didn’t enter my head until I saw other people kicking off

It’s getting to the point if you take the piss out of a Jewish family it’s become anti Semitic it’s pathetic

Tidied - as them being Jewish didn’t enter my head.

Pope should be banned for having such horrendous ‘banter’ - but that’s his general twitter account
