Tom Cannon bid in - now signed for Sheff U.

What’s the general expectation/feeling around how you’ll do this season?

Clear at the bottom by some distance.

Not seen such dissatisfaction at the club/ownership/DOF for many years.

Finally the fanbase as a whole seems to be waking up and there were long sustained chants against the Director of Football away at Fulham on Saturday.

Ps, seems like Faes wants out so if you fancy going a long way to making the fans a lot happier stick in a bid 🤣. Can't stand the bloke.

Don't know why, but this feels like we're being used to drum up some interest in him. Not that we wouldn't be interested, but I can't see us spending £5m+ on anyone while we're in the championship

Faes just does seem like one of those endlessly annoying footballers 😂 annoying to even look at

We really could do with two more forwards in. High pressing football tends to lead to injuries across a season. Be brilliant if we can get two of these deals over the line.

2 in 13 was mostly off the bench. The one doubt is his injury last season.

His loan at Preston overlapped with Liam Delap's. Delap scored 1 in 15 when Cannon got 8 in 20.

I think one half a good season is not much to value him at 5 million personally.

I’d be amazed if Mayenda doesn’t better 8 in 20 this season to be honest. He got into the positions enough times against Cardiff and Burnley that he should already be on half way to that along with his Sheffield Wednesday goals.

I think Leicester overpaid off the back of that and his value is now inflated as a result

It's not just goals scored though, it's consideration of the team he played for, his style, their style, his potential. He's young, available and good. Or are you suggesting we should be offering 3 million for a player that other clubs will pay more for?

Would this be the same Jamie Vardy who at the age that Tom Cannon is now, was a 1 in 3 striker for Stocksbridge Park Steels of National Premier League Division One? Every transfer is risky but £5-7m for a 21 year old 1 in 3 Championship striker seems less of a risk than many we’ve tried over the years.
I’m not saying he’s not good enough for the championship, I’m saying he’s not good enough to step up to PL level.

Given the problems we have getting strikers generally, how close we are getting to window ending etc, I'd be happy with this for sure.

But he is not the experienced striker profile we originally seemed to be looking for with Mendy after the Burstow/Rusyn/Hemir/ Meyenda debarcle.

So looks like we are back to higher risk younger signings, albeit Cannon and Simic are a few more development years down the line and higher rated than some of our signings.
