Tokyo Olympics Football

Stuck it on for the last 20 minutes because I'm an England ultra. The bairns school teacher is Steph Houghtons sister anarl so practically family.

I think there should be a special thread to quarantine all those bitchy blokes who have a problem with women's football as well, then we don't have to suffer them on this one.
To be fair the thread was largely fine until one person came on to be deliberately argumentative. He might think he's being "supportive" of the women's game, but it's the post that has driven it off topic.

Anyway, canny goal. Should be in the bag now. Not sure if Chile are any good but this has been really comfortable for GB

If you don't know whether the female Chile team are any good you mustn't be a real football fan marra.

Saw a thing about a beach handball team getting fined for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms. Gutted it's a different sport to beach volleyball (is it?) but can see them getting a lot of criticism for that one

Its very important that unlike women's court based volley ball - where the participants can wear trench coats & balaclavas if they like - the participants in women's beach volleyball can't be incumbered by large articles of clothing. A rule which strangely doesn't apply to men's beach volleyball. It's all about physics apparently

They were decent at the last World Cup.

Really impressive performance by GB considering that it's a scratch team.

The coach has got a track record of doing well at these tournaments, so we may be a bit of a dark horse.
You say it’s a scratch team but Little and Weir are talented and experienced players, not hard to slot into the backbone provided by the Lionesses

Ah, read it and thought it had. Hence my post mate, i wasnt being funny just didnt know.
Just for clarity, I didn't mean that your post was daft. Just meant I think it's daft that they play stuff before the opening ceremony! I'd feel a bit put out if I was having to start my Olympics and they hadn't even officially started the event!

But every other team just fields the same team as they do for every tournament.

GB are at a disadvantage at every Olympics as this is the only time we ever field a combined team.

You're aware that none of the events were well attended at the Brazil Olympics right? That's why it's the exception.

You could have just have easily said that there were 80,000 in attendance at the women's football final in 2012 rather than '10,000 empty seats'.
A rule doesn't have an exception.

I've referred to the three 'most important' games in the 2012 Olympices.

None of them were 'sold out', which is the term you used. Having looked at the other fixture in that tournament, only one may have 'sold out', GB v Canada in the Q-F

So at best 1 potential 'sold out' game out of 26 in the tournament you're keen to refer to, hardly fits the definition of 'most of the events would normally be sold out including the women's football''.
