Tokyo Olympics Football

No, there's a clear difference between men's and womens football. As you know, given the massively lower attendances in the sport. I am a supporter of the SAFC and England men's teams. Your argument about "not being passionate about the England team" might as well be expanded to cover all the other sports that people don't watch. If you like mens football and are English, I'd expect you'd have an interest in the England mens national team. If you like womens football and are English, I'd expect you'd have an interest in the England women's team. If you like mens rugby union and are English, I'd expect you'd have an interest in the mens England rugby union team.

This is pretty self explanatory stuff tbh, as you will know. As it stands, I do want the England womens team to win things, and England Rugby, cricket, tiddlywinks. I'd want every England team to win every sport, but I won't watch sports that I personally have no interest in
Yeah ok, that makes sense.

People need to be interested in the bits you are interested in, but it is fine for them not to be interested in the bits you are not.

Saw a thing about a beach handball team getting fined for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms. Gutted it's a different sport to beach volleyball (is it?) but can see them getting a lot of criticism for that one

Do the blokes have to wear speedos?

Again that's not what I've said at all. I've said I'd expect them to be interested in the bits THEY'RE interested in. If they're interested in women's football, I would expect they'd have an interest in a big womens tournament. If they're interested in men's football I'd expect them to be interested in a big mens tournament. You are just trying to be argumentative tbh. And I've always said, if people randomly aren't interested in the England team it's fine, it's the ones who actively want them to lose that do my head in. I'd never want an England / Britain team to lose, even in women's football that I'm naturally not too bothered about

Waste of time quoting the Brazil Olympics, it was the exception that proves the rule.

What was the attendance for the women's final in 2012?
If there is an exception, it isn't a rule.

We can all play the 'Ignore the stats that don't support your assertion'. It is called confirmation bias.

Oh, about 10,000 empty seats for the 2012 final, about 28,000 empty seats at one semi-final at Wembley and Old Trafford about a third full for the other semi-final.

Hardly sold out.

You're aware that none of the events were well attended at the Brazil Olympics right? That's why it's the exception.

You could have just have easily said that there were 80,000 in attendance at the women's football final in 2012 rather than '10,000 empty seats'.

Plus "the exception that proves the rule" is a saying that is always badly used. It refers to things like a sign that might say "no swimming in this pool on a Wednesday". The fact it only mentions Wednesday means it is the exception that proves the rule that you can swim there any other day. Not relevant to the thread mind, but always irritates when it's misused.
