TM accepts we are buying players for future

Slightly better spin on it from Wilson I guess. And if I squint I can view what TM was trying to say in a positive light. However there are some incredibly clumsy bits. He really needs to be more careful.

Why? He is an honest guy and speaks as he sees it. He is allowed to. He always has done to be fair, and he has questioned how some decisions are being made. The same as previous mangers did.

He is just more pragmatic about it and likes working with younger players.

KS interview in May is to challenge for the top two places this season and aim higher than a play off spot. My opinion is I don’t believe we have improved the starting 11 to achieve that, it might change by the end of Aug. You may think the side is good enough now, all about an opinion that’s all.

Let’s hope the club show some patience this season with TM

He’s allowed to say what he wants. Personally I’m not interested in helping Tony Mowbray, though. Anything that helps an individual by damaging the club I’ve got absolutely no time for. I don’t think he’s necessarily going for that here (as I say I’ll credit it as clumsy more than anything) but if he veers closer to it he’ll certainly deserve criticism in my eyes.

Quoting your own post that is an inaccurate representation of what was actually said:lol:

So why not wait until the window closes and see where we are?

I’m confident we’ll have a better squad when the window closes, the recruitment is a million miles away from where we were a few years ago, other than maybe not getting another striker last season.

Give them a bit of credit and let them finish the window

Pointless trying to reason with a poster who invents his own quotes to prove his point and is speakman in, speakman out every other month.

Just laughable really. Not surprised he posted about speaking to SAFC fan TV as its the best place for garbage.

The irony of the situation is I believe Mowbray’s comments were in part made to keep the fans onside. As in Mowbray’s saying Look I’d like to bring in a couple of top quality top end championship players but I have to accept the club won’t do it that way.

However if the side struggle to replicate last seasons form and are not challenging the top six it’s the fans who will in effect get Mowbray the sack.

Once people lose patience it’s always the managers fault and it’s him who’ll carry the can.

As soon as the crowd turn it’s only a matter of time until the manager gets the sack.

Yep, I have regularly commented on how well the recruitment team have done, I think the signing of Bellingham could be a master stroke.

Yep. And in my view he shouldn’t. Anything that helps TM by hurting SAFC is not good imo.

He isn't the first manager to say these things. Maybe it's the model that needs to flex to ensure success is achieved? Or all the managers wrong ?

One thing that hasn't changed no matter who the owners are is managers/coaches complaining that they're not being backed by decent transfers.

Worrying that is such a recurring theme

Unless we get incredibly lucky then probably say goodbye to all the good players we find because footballers don't have patience either. I doubt Clarke and Patterson and Roberts and Stewart etc etc won't stick around just because we were in league one for years

Because generally coaches are well known for saying any issue at the club they reside is their fault alone and no one else's.

Ballard, Hume, Cirkin and Neil have recently decided this is a decent place to play football, maybe we are incredibly lucky?

Or we may just be able to sell someone at a profit for the first time in a very long time, if that were the case then it sounds like were just running really well instead of being lucky to be honest. Squad, accounts and league finishes seem to suggest the same.

My honest view? It’s the latter. Football managers would happily see the world burn tomorrow if it meant they could stay slightly warmer today. Neil, Mowbray whoever. They couldn’t give a shit if we get into a FFP spiral in 18 months time. They want their comfort blanket and they want it now. Thing is, if the way the club works is so ‘different’ then the way the HC is judged will be different too - so this type of self-preservation may be unnecessary. As long as the head coach is the most visible spokesman for the club he should serve the club’s interests first.

Interesting points that you have made well. I do find it a little tough to discount the managers with vast experience of what's needed compared to that a DOF who has limited experience. It will be a very interesting season ahead. Cards on the table, I will be surprised if Mowbray makes it though the entire season.

He's always being asked about it. And tbf it's the prime focus of all clubs and fans between a season ending, and the next beginning.
Mag journalists sewing discontent on the eve of the new season. Happens every year.
They'll be knitting some despair next.

Simple truth is that he's looking at KLD's wealth and thinking that a big chunk of it should be spent breaching FFP to "guarantee" promotion. The approach that got us in L1 in the first place. He could have saved alot of typing by simply posting the Tom Cruise "Show me the money" gif.

So when someone raises a previous talking point of how serious are we in wanting to bring players to the club of the calibre in this transfer window to meet KS target of finishing in the top two this season, should maybe read TM quote from the above article.

Sign young players, develop them, improve the squad, sell them for significant profit, if a buying club meets our valuation, a plan which carries a huge amount of business sense. However for those of us me included with aspirations of promotion this season and a top two finish, I think this strategy makes it highly unlikely, given the strength of the Championship this season.

Let’s hope the Board don’t lose patience with the Coach, he is working with the plan and our supporters don’t turn on him if we aren’t in the top six by October….. sadly wishful thinking, just a bit!!

Prediction, we will sign the lad from the Ukraine, I mentioned weeks ago we had serious interest in the Chilean lad, now looks like he is being touted round for the highest bidder, the sale of Lihadji today may help 🤞
Why are you being negative before a ball has even been kicked?

Speakman himself said promotion is the aim and will always been the aim. Splashing money on players that are over valued isn't the way to go, it hasn't worked for us previously and bringing in potential and developing them is something to be encouraged and admired.

We'll go up this season.

It’s about viewpoint and what they’re incentivised towards rather than experience for me. HCs are mostly conditioned to focus on the next 6 games. DoFs need to focus on our performance across all timescales - but ultimately need us to challenge every season. Personally I would never make long term decisions (like player transfers) on the basis of performance over a short run of results. If we focus on buying, developing and selling well the results will take care of themselves.

The thing is, if the club is doing things so differently it is almost certain that they won’t make hire or fire decisions like a traditional club either. So Mowbray will need that myopic good run/bad run focus less. The club will have a data model that will tell them what performance they should be able to expect with the players they have. So it should be easier for them to parse out what is the capability of the squad and what is TMs performance. They’re unlikely to react to a bad run in the traditional fashion if there are underlying reasons for it. What could count against TM, though, is obvious misalignment with how the club is run (eg refusing to develop young players - not that he does that - or constantly gobbing off). I’m certain that the hair trigger on Neil would have been sprung as soon as he hit the inevitable bad run for those very reasons.
