I agree with OP.
Also believe Henderson needs a few games on the bench and come on as an impact player.
Hopefully Meyler is close to a start to give Henderson a rest.

Team for Wolves.
Gordon
Onouha Turner Mensah(If Fit) Bardsley
Elmo Catts Steed Richardson
Wellbeck
Gyan

Subs: Ming, PDS, Ferdinand, Henderson, Bent.
THO:lol:

Blumin nora, how fickle are we...... bent doesn't score for 90mins of football, and we're talking about dropping him! haha ffs.

I actually thought he played ok last night, as well as anyone in red and white tbh, cos lets face it we struggled for some reason. He won headers he shouldn't have won, worked hard, and held the ball up ok. Not great, but not bad either man.

If bent is fit.......... then bent and gyan up front..... absolute no brainer.....

WTF

Bent when he needs to is good at holding up the play and linking up play, but 90% of his game is just playing on the defence's shoulders which means he isn't involved in the buildup as much as the other striker in the team. It works and he scores goals (and also creates space for our buildup play as he keeps the defenders occupied).

And how the fuck is he miss firing? Bar a few snap shots 90% of the balls he has had have been 2 foot above his head, which is one area he struggles with (ie heading balls that he cannot reach...).

So he gets wrong for not holding the ball up, then gets wrong when he does.

The only attacks he slowed down where when he was holding up the ball (as it was going nowhere) to bring in other team members to the attack.

He wasn't holding the ball up on those occasions, he was making play slow when it should have been quick because he didn't have the control required. You don't need to hold the ball up on the counter with numerical parity, but that's what happened a few times.

He's a brilliant goalscorer, and goals win football matches, so he's a great footballer for us and is a legend, no doubt in my mind about that, but that's not to say he's the best player in the world and that he doesn't have weaknesses; he does, one of which is his lack of footballing skill, which is apparent when youy see what a good footballing stiker like Gyan brings to the team in terms of fludiity and link play.

But in a few weeks, Sat even (fingers crossed), we'll have that and Bent's excellent positioning, so it's win win.

This. Spot on.

The kneejerk reaction on here is funny but if you look at the way we played last night, as soon as Bent was back the back 4 were lumping balls back up field, there was very little of that against chelsea where we were playing the ball out to wide men and building up the play.

As much as Bent has been a tremendous asset, we play much more negative football when Bent plays.

I know we haven't seen much of Gyan but he brings a lot more to the party than Bent for me.

I never seen him win a header all game tbh

Nearly scored with one, just went over the bar, not an easy chance. Did a nice aerial flick on to Richardson on the counter as well, although Rico did a Fifa Sprint kick ahead and it went about 15 yards in front of him.

I'd agree with that like. As an all round footballer, SKP and (it seems so far) Gyan piss on Bent. But he doesn't have to be everything, the amount of goals he scores. He's just got that predators instinct like Andy Cole had at his peak.

Absolutely not, Bent scores goals, Gyan is starting to show us his ability so lets have them both playing!

Would love to see them form a good partnership, but I just can't see it working.
As they playing style is very much a case of too many cooks, spoiling the Broth.

You ever seen Gyan play like? Apart from both playing for Sunderland, as strikers, and being fast and black, they have nothing in common.

Gyan basically finishes chances Bent couldn't, is athletic and strong, and plays deep, and is our joint best play maker when in the side, excellent with back to and facing goal, will be a world class striker, probably soon.

Bent couldn't make play for a (insert something witty here); what he has is the knack of knowing where the ball will be and putting it in the net, which is priceless. That's about it, but he does it so frequently that he's one of the best goalscorers in the league when on form.

The two of these, if they co-operate, will be one of the top strike forces in the league by some distance.

What are you basing that on? The fact he's scored a couple of one-on-ones and a tap in?

He's started really well for us, but you can tell by the way people talk about him at the minute is OTT. He can e brilliant, but he's not better than Bent yet.

As for the 'getting involved more' comments, he was anonymous against Spurs, it was only when we decided to pass the ball against Chelsea that he looked decent all-round.

Bit cringe worthy the way some people have been dismissing Bent in this thread like. Like a very happily married, whose secretary shows him a bit of attention at work so he decides that a divorce is the best thing to do.
