Thoughts on Room for Improvement from the test summer

Why are people still talking about Foakes

He's not a test match number 7, he only ever scored runs batting with the top 6.

So he's better suited batting in the top 6 but he's not displacing Root, Brook or Stokes.

So he'll never play for England again.

I'd like to see how Smith keeps in Pakistan to spinners before raving about him.
Wicketkeeping has become a lost art with the dearth of spinners. Rew's keeping yesterday on a turning pitch was excellent.
I'm not denying Smith's batting capabilities.
Yeah it’s more his batting I am raving about tbh.

Not seen enough of his keeping to rave.

But I just think he is going to be a constant mainstay in the side for years and years keeping or not.

He’s not good enough for international cricket I don’t think

I’d have 2 or 3 others ahead of him

People stuck with this romantic view of a glove man from the 1980s or someit

He’s not unlucky

He shouldn’t be in the team even when Smith gets injured

He’s not a good enough batsman,

We won in Pakistan with Pope keeping twice like

Foakes is clearly a good keeper but this idea he’s some game changing player because he gathers the ball better, not for me.
Nothing to do with being romantic. I think he’s good enough for Test cricket and would improve our side. Nothing more nothing less.

I don't think there is anyone better to pick in our top 7.

It's just the application of their abilities is the only issue for me.

RE Pope here is a list of number 3s for England. He just needs to improve consistency, but I think he's playing out of position, but who could bat 3 instead?

I thought he was terrible in India and a big reason we lost so heavily but it’s all opinions I guess
I think he a good player mate and superb keeper is Foakes, but he certainly not a keeper to bat with the tail and suspect that is why he was dropped in the first place and will not get back in now Smith on the scene

He’s a decent county batsman and a good glove man, but there’s loads of them, John Simpson is another, I couldn’t seperate them 2, Ollie Robinson

Bairstow and Smith are streets above, Id have Cox. bairstow can’t keep now after his leg break so talking before that obviously.

Pope is under no pressure at all like, I get a bit miffed about the Criticism

He can improve and needs more consistency, but that’s miles away from being dropped

Personally I would have loved to see how Buttler would have went under Stokes and McCullum’s leadership, but pointless going there
