Thought, thinking and self awareness

How about you answer my questions before you expect answers to all the questions you've fired off in this quickfire three-post melt of yours.

How does meditation "work" on the visual, auditory and cerebral cortex, or were you using smoke and mirrors again ?

You talk shite pal, all riddles and nonsense quotes that you hope make you sound good, a right good boost to the ego eh ?

He really is for real mate.

What I said was:

"I've also said that meditation works on the cerebral cortex, the visual cortex and the auditory cortex. I've said it is a neurological and physiological practice in reality and there is nothing mystical about it."

That is the context, that it is a neurological and physiological experience and nothing metaphysical about it.

Do you disagree? What else could it work on. Is there a part of the brain that only you know about and it works on that?

Anyway forget all that boring shite. The burning issue of the day is why do you need to hide behind a new avatar.

That's what we all want to know. I have actually answered your questions so how about you?

How does the meditation benefit the cerebral cortex, the visual cortex and the auditory cortex? Which is what you were trying to imply.

To answer you, I have always had this avatar, it is HAL

Do you close your eyes, chant or make repetitive movements that ingrains a procedure upon your brain, as that would be on a par with how religious practices are implanted.

I didn't say it benefited those parts of the brain, I said it worked on them and was experienced through them. Dreaming does the same. I couldn't care less about the mechanics, meditation is a physical thing and nothing more. I cannot think of any other part of our physiological makeup that it could work on. Everything works through our neurological components. Or do you disagree?

I've never been into mantras. A parrot can be taught to repeat a mantra. If you want to find out about meditation, seek out someone who can teach you and find out for yourself. It's the experience that matters not the mechanics.

I don't believe this is your only avatar. I've been on this forum for 12 years and never known someone who is a GK and has been on for less than a year jump in and act like you?

Bullshit.

So what is your experience in quantum mechanics?

You implied and you know you did.

It seems like your experiences are the only ones that matter, even on the forum, such an ego on you man

I did not, that is how you interpreted it because that is how you wanted to interpret it. That is obvious from what I actually posted, that I emphasised it was not mystical, metaphysical or spiritual. I even said the word spirit simply means breath to me. No my experiences are not the only ones that matter except to me. That is all I can talk about. Not much point trying to talk about other people's experiences, they were not mine, that is up to them.

See what I mean. You go round in circles and are a waste of time.

I still call bullshit on your new avatar.

PS: Anyway. It would be great to hear about other people's experiences of meditation, including your own. It might actually get us away from a lot of the religious crap we talk about. It may even demonstrate just how crap religion is for the experiences we have as human beings.

We will move on from religion when we get more into our human experiences and dump the false concepts.

I believe we reap what we sow.

By and large that idea is horseshit.

A cursory glance at the world we live in immediately discredits any idea that “What goes around comes around” or “You reap what you sow.”

Many people on this Earth are shit on from a great height since birth despite being good people and many absolute shithouses live the life of Riley until they pop their clogs.

You're right. Which is why I don't believe in karma which depends on reincarnation to make sense and if you don't believe in reincarnation.....

What I meant is that if you out each night looking for trouble you will find it.

If you live a life of peace you will be ok unless some twat comes along and spoils it.

Life is a sequence of random events.

Yes you did, the rest of your post is fluff, distraction.

Meditation is like being told to drink more water, you should probably do it, it will help, although it won't cure you, the rest is fluff.

You've actually raised a good point and we agree. I've used the water analogy before. If you are thirsty you need to drink, if you are not you don't.

Meditation is definitely not a cure and it would be dangerous to think it was. It's a form of relief. Not suited to everyone.

Sat Nam.

Sorry couldn't finish the post as I had to give my son a lift to work. It's cold, damp and misty out there. The things we do for love eh?

I think we try to make some order for the sake of stability and security which can work for a while but then a random event comes along, something out of nowhere.

I don't accept karma explains that and to say it's because of something we did in a previous lifetime just doesn't hold for me. At birth we are a blank page and then nurture takes over.

How can we be here now if the past is always chasing after us. Random events are outside our control.

But you need to take this up with someone who believes in karma.

The world has a high proportion of greedy, selfish twats which is why I've been a socialist all my life.

All religion offers is pie in the sky when you die if you've been good according to the standards set by religion.

I think, therefore I am, Rene Descartes.

To be or not to be. William Shakespeare.

To do is to be. To be is to do. Lau Tzu.

Do be do be do. Frank Sinatra.

That's where he went wrong I think.

More a case of: I am, therefore I think.

Oh I need to explain something which may have caused confusion. My use of the word avatar. As I am sure you are aware, it is an old Indian word for an incarnation. Rama and Krishna are believed to be incarnations or avatars of the god Vishnu. I would point out I don't believe because as I've said many times I don't believe in gods or divine incarnations and that Krishna, Buddha and Jesus et all were human beings.

I thought you might have realised that though as I was talking in the context of your previous incarnations on this board rather than your picture avatar.

As I'm sure you're aware when I said you were fluff, this is ancient word used by the great Gods of Sodslaw, Bol and Llocks and it means bullshit, deception, pleasure in writing ten words when one will do.

I'm lacking in fluff, I'm new here, I am from reddit, where on a sub /r/soccerstreams one fella said he'd share with the smb which I took to be a slight, until he explained it meant the sunderland message boards, so here I am, I'm so lacking in fluff that I bet you can even guess my surname.

Fuck off.

Before you take that personal it is the customary greeting to someone new on here. So don't take offence.

You're so lacking in fluff it took you 14 posts before you said something of value which to be fair I did think was a good point.

So are you a Sunderland supporter?

Thats actually very funny :D

It's just in 12 years I've never seen someone new act like you which makes me doubt that you're a "Johnny come lately, new kid in town". You came straight in with an agenda
