It seems that this may be reason that despite a huge revival in vinyl sales, certain artists never seemed to get their music re-released on vinyl?... had wondered over recent years that despite the trend, why nobody was re-releasing classic albums on vinyl by likes of R.E.M., Sammy Davis Jr., Nirvana, The Police, Carpenters, etc?!
Back in 2008 the vault at Universal Studios went up in flames... initially played down by studio execs it appears that Universal had stored not only the master tapes but in some cases also the back-up tapes in same vaults?!
Sheryl Crow was going on about it this morning on the news, but when you look at some of the record labels involved its shocking to see how many artists have lost their original recordings!!… around 150,000 recordings lost forever which spans around half a million songs!
