This thing with Carroll

Thought he did OK. Plenty of attempts to get the ball to him so he had a bit to work with, some which he did well with, others where he completely messed up. If he were a SAFC player I'd be saying it was a decent enough debut.

And also loads of posters incapable of offering a sensible judgement because of the team he plays for.

It's got fuck all to do with that, here are the facts, Carroll played for 70 odd minutes ish without any meaningful contribution, Crouch played 35 minutes ish, and scored a goal, held the ball up better to bring players into the game and that's when England started to play better and that's a f***ing fact, so sod off back to the Carroll wankfest.

From what I saw, he won his headers mainly, put himself about but was no direct threat. He did ok and was certainly more prominent than Jordan, entirely due to the fact that the team tried to hit him constantly.
this. Henderson will always struggle when the team bypasses midfield. Hoofball didn't really help Carroll either

Think he did his best with the limited service he was receiving at head height, not exactly a phenomenal debut but I don't think people can have expected much more from him.

Carroll would have had a better game if the wingers had actually been wingers and got down the sides to whip crosses in.
The whole set up seemed shambolic , Henderson was no worse than the rest of midfield and Carroll did ok but could have been better if the team he played for him. I dare say having Henderson wide right could have benefited Carroll.

Capello had a centre half playing at right back, the left back doesn't get a game for Arsenal, Lescott and Richards rarely get games for City. I know he's got to experiment but as you say, it was shambolic, get the ball, hoof it up front for Carroll to flick onto.... Gerrard who's starting 20 yards behind him

he did ok, nobody played well.

You got a sort of mention in the Sunday Sun this week, are you chuffed?

Check my posts. I've got no time for him as a person and little time for him as a player. Your semi-literate and obscene post backs up what I said, you cant express an opinion about him because of his team.

If (as an SAFC player) Kenwyne Jones were able to play for England and he put in the exact same performance as Caroll did last night, the smb would have been joining in the wankfest. It really is as simple as that.

Did he really have a good debut? I heard the commentators last night and have read some of the comments in the papers this morning. Am I bias, being a Sunderland fan when I thought he was very average at best:confused:

Thik they were talking about the debut they hoped he would have rather than how he actually played. To be fair the service was poor and like Henderson he had no guidance or help from anyone around him. The French showed how you need to defend against him. Get someone to watch the runners rather than him.

Agreed, as long it was also Jones' debut in this situation too.

As debuts go I thought he was decent, given the circumstances. He tried to bring people into play but we seemed to be about 15 yards behind him. He won a few flick ons and all the usual target man cliches but him and the rest of them will have to improve massively if we want to move forward

An unbiased view of him was that he was pretty poor along with the rest of them!!

Yes it was his debut and yes he may be slighty nervous but didn't do much for me to warrant all the adulation he has been getting!!

Spot on. Carroll worked hard, and did as much as he could given the limited service he got. He is a far better player attacking the ball in the air from crosses, rather than being left isolated as he was last night, receiving high balls with his back to goal barely halfway inside the opposition half. Once again, it shows up England's lack of imagination.
