This thing with Carroll

Did he really have a good debut? I heard the commentators last night and have read some of the comments in the papers this morning. Am I bias, being a Sunderland fan when I thought he was very average at best:confused:

the commentators were wet over him last night like
some on-air pokeybum tugs

england already have crouch in the same role, with 22 goals scored in 40 games or so.

carroll is a decent player but he is not going to lead england to world cup or euro glory

if rooney, defoe, bent, zamora, crouch are all fit, for a game with points involved, does anyone really think carroll will be in ahead of those players?

No your not wrong, but there are loads of Carroll cocksuckers on here that will tell you otherwise.

Not currently (well, maybe he'll be ahead of Zamora) but he's younger than them. Carroll is an option for England but shouldn't yet be the key man.

Regarding the Crouch comparison, he's a totally different player. He's tall, yes, but he's far bigger and more physical than Crouch and doesn't have telescope legs.

IMO the dross all around him made him look good last night. Nothing more.
He didn't actually achieve anything.

i take the point but do you think carroll will score as many for england, that crouch has?

anyway, i thought the big man up front and getting crosses ower, went out with tommy lawton.

carroll is a decent player but has not even completed a season in the premier yet.

He is limited. He is good in the air and is a big strong lad. However, his first touch is shocking.
Having said that I expect him to do really well this year in the Prem. Next year - assuming the mags stay up - he will be found out big time.

He'll always be compared just because they are tall! Crouch should be ahead of Carroll though, just because he does have a very good goal scoring rate for England. Carroll will be a backup man, useful to bring off the bench late in a game, someday he may be first choice if continues to improve but it's still very early for him.

He was okay, but not worth the amount the press have been going on about him. Mind, it was always going to happen- even before the game Hendo hardly got a mention whilst they kept wanking over Carroll

In the game itself he had a decent debut- he held off his man effectively at times, won his share of headers, a few of the flick ons went towards their man, but a couple of times he was wasteful in possession. However, if you have a "big lad" up front, winning headers and holding off his man is pretty much what you expect. Lets just say that, imo, Kevin Davies or Carlton Cole could have produced that performance, and if they had, no one would be overly impressed. It was a not bad start to an England career, but the press are determined to big him up- partly due to the fact they are desperate for a "young, traditional english centre forward", and maybe partly so they can knock him back down when (as is bound to happen), he gets into major trouble again

I doubt it but, like I said, he's another option. At this stage, I'd be picking Crouch certainly.

He put himself about which was bound to get him noticed in last nights performance. The England midfield was pathetic, never seen so many players stand off, I don't think they could even f***ing spell tackle.

Good debut but he limited the play in the way that Capello chose to use him for hoof balls

Implying that he was good wouldn't be the full story

Pretty much sums him up.

It won't take that long, he scored a few goals early on in the season, but as the season goes on teams will have sussed out and he'll less and less.

From what I saw, he won his headers mainly, put himself about but was no direct threat. He did ok and was certainly more prominent than Jordan, entirely due to the fact that the team tried to hit him constantly.
