This sums it up for me

Nothing stopping them sitting down and stating a base year for the wage bill and as I said using the trading figures for 2015/6...........

As these wont be out until 2017 any sanctions imposed actually wouldnt be handed out retrospectively..............

I expect FFP may well change with the larger TV money next year but you cant just take the risk of ignoring it......

And anyway wheres the club suddenly going to get loads more money this year from.........Its still currently making a loss and Short wont want to pour more money he more than likely wont get back down another black hole.........
FFP is a red herring at the moment IMO and given far to much credence by SAFC. The clubs have to agree and won't start at this as a base year when they are all spending, IMO they may start at the beginning of the new TV deal if at all. Funding I agree is a problem.

The spending isn't the problem mate its the wage bill................

We aren't the only PL giving it credence that's just the assumption trotted out on here ........

At SAFC management level, the truth is there is a lot of 'Talking' but not much 'Walking'.

The common thread through the recent years is the Owner's advisers, while teams like Swansea, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Stoke have improved a lot, just look at us - a f***ing mess. I think J. K. would have been a better adviser LOL

The first game told everything, unfit players (WTF were they doing all summer), questionable skills, questionable commitment, the only good thing was the manager did the best he could with players he had.

Another thing I don't see DA staying, he is a top class manager who will not take the bull sh*t he has been sold.

Why have I got this attitude - last 3 f***ing years, how have some people have kept their jobs I do not know (well maybe I do, it's called Board room shock). If you want to know what I mean by 'Board Room Shock', I will explain in another thread.

Sorry about rant but I just see another season of not buying the Sunday Sun or watching Match of the Day on a lot of weekends.
Fair enough marra but if you're questioning the fitness levels against Leicester then that comes down to advocaat

'People keep mentioning Southampton...............'

Here's a fact. When Markus Liebherr bought Southampton in July 2009 they were in League One and were in administration.
Ellis Short invested in Sunderland in May 2008 and in May 2009 took control of SAFC who survived a second season in the Premier League.
And had a wage to turnover of 80% and a poor (and oversize) squad. The easiest way to build a club on strong foundations is to take a club up with a decent amount of money to spend. Quinny should have built something solid when he had the chance. Sadly he - and by extension we - missed the boat in a big way

Yes mate, but on what seems most threads FFP is stated as the reason we can't bring players in. It may well be the wage bill, it all comes back to funding not FFP. IMO

When the max increase per year on the wage bill is only £4 million even a couple of low cost players become a major problem..........

Folk wonder why Watford have bought a team but having come up their wage bill is well below as is that of teams already here who are spending like palace........

Its a combination of factors in the end........

I was still feeling like this until recently. It's pretty damning though that the last signing made was a loan, and the two rumoured now are loans.

It's a safe bet that there are no permanent signings being made before the window shuts.

The club's predicament is a massive worry, and if you can't see that you're simply in denial.

I'm normally clapping along happily, but the whole situation has a pretty dire outlook to me.
Let's see what the next couple of weeks bring, we definitely need players, surely Advocaat, Congerton and Short can see this if not then we're in for a long hard season.

But Short has had enough time to sort it out. He's been here 7 years and we are no better off. We've sold our better players and failed to replace them. The reason why Stoke, Palace, Swansea and Southampton are by passing us is down to bad management. Just look at Stoke's business this summer:

In:
Shaqiri - £12m
Wollschied - £2.5m
Joselu - £5.75m
Haugaard - £0.4m
Johnson - Free
Given - Free
Afellay - Free
van Ginkel - Loan
Total: £20.65m

Out:
Begovic - £8m
N'Zonzi - £7m
Huth - £3m
Total - £18m
Net: £2.65m

Stoke have brought in the right people in at the right time. They brought in Hughes to replace Pulis and have the right scouts and contacts. We brought in di Canio and de Fanti when we had the chance to get Hughes and they got Poyet and Congerton when we had the chance to get Pulis. The problems are at the top.

So it again comes down to bad management. Bless his cotton socks Mr Short has been butt fucked by advice. Marco said words to the effect of the club suffers due to the lack of real football people at the top a few months ago on Total Sport. His argument was based on the fact that surely someone would have put the breaks on the shite Di Fanti was bringing in. Congreton aside, in DA i think he finally has someone he can trust. It will be such a shame if the ghosts from previous bad decisions fuck up the one chance we have to progress. But there again which clown out the current bunch thought it was a good idea to waste even more money on Wes Brown to keep the bench warm?

We don't need to go stupid with signings but 3 or 4 decent buys and we will be conformable. The penalties if any will be minimal for us so worth doing. The extra revenue from next seasons tv deal will help also. All this ffp talk was shorts idea so he can hide behind it

What exactly is our strategy to catch up with the top 10?
:lol::lol: There isn't one. the plan goes like this:
Renew or release players with expiring contracts (do it at the last minute)
Buy cheap replacements
Loan 2-3 players to replace the once we loaned before.

Meantime,

Sack the manager, get a new one,
Narrowly avoid relegation,
Stand back in amazement at the continued and increasing support.
Wonder why we are losing money
Sign a new annual sponsorship deal
Tell DoF to pursue the 3rd or 4th options on the list
Stir the Fabio Borini pot
Tell the events twerp to do more concerts

You don't think Congerton will be involved with the fitness of players? Personally I reckon he will be like
He is responsible for them being fit for purpose

Presumably DA has his own fitness/nutrition gadgy who specifically does this..........Poyer did tho he looked like a Nazi death camp doctor...............

You have nothing at all to base that on though............

This is what I don't understand? Right there is a big hitter of the pay roll!

Is it not possible to increase the wage budget this year and look to offfload next year given that Fletcher and Graham are out of contract anyway.

Congerton has spoke in the past how his role involves being involved with the first team and appraising them on fitness amongst other things.

Congerton wouldn't be forfilling his role if he leaves it all to the manager and doesn't at least monitor things.

The death camp doctor ran the show under Poyet though...........everything from diet/nutrition through to all the training stuff that didn't involve actually playing...........

Fair enough. Congerton is then not doing part of his role he once described.
To be honest I don't think Congerton should be involved or appraising that anyway..........its his job to get players in who are fit as someone posted for purpose and folk like this little geezer in the modern game are far more qualified and every club now has some one who does nothing else..........
