This sums it up for me

In other news, managerial genius Louis Van Gaal lost £15m after the transfer of Angel Di Maria to Paris St Germain.
PL clubs have too much money and not a lot seem to think rationally and business wise. They all seem like kids in a sweet shop. It only ever seems to hit home when they are relegated and a fire sale ensues.

There is no excuse for the paucity of talent coming through to the England setup. The FA has failed with all of this and partly its down to the fact that the PL clubs just stick two fingers up at them. All of the clubs should have youth football at the heart of their setups and all of them should make sure they have decent coaches and a decent setup and plan of action ie strategy for how they are going to bring them through into say the SAFC or Stoke city first team.

surely any clubs dream would be to have a first team full of their own home grown talent. although that might be utopia thats surely what clubs should be aspiring too and plugging the gaps with foreigners where they dont have their own home grown talent. We and the other PL clubs seem to do it the other way around.

the previous youth setup didnt work either but they stuck a new name on it ie calling them Academies and built some shiny new buildings to house this new name in. at the end of the day though England are even further away from winning an international tournament than when they introduced these shiny new buildings and this shiny new name.

in other words; its failed.

We are even importing foreign kids into our youth systems so that our lads have even less of a chance. Pathetic.

So how many years of failure while he is in charge do we have to endure before it becomes his fault?

Your argument sounds like the bloody politicians, "I know the country is going to shit but look at what we inherited 9 years ago"
No I countered both your points ..........its hardly Shorts fault Southampton produce so much from their academy or Crystal Palace have a low wage bill they can push up far more than ours is it.

And PL clubs wage bills only go one way thanks to the money in the game and he inherited one that was almost the same as the limit at which FFP restrictions start........

Take 2 examples Walcott & Bale.....London & Wales....not exactly anything to do with catchment area there
Having looked Southampton actually picked up Bale from having a satellite academy in Bath so I suppose it was their catchment area........

Wonder what prompted that in the first place and if they still have it.............?

Still a canny hike for a 14 year old living in Cardiff.

Still worked though didn't it..............they obviously looked after him and he was one of those it was apparent from day one he was something special both in terms of football and as an athlete.......

Supposedly did 100m metres in 11.4 seconds at age 14.............

makes yer sick dont it :)

At SAFC management level, the truth is there is a lot of 'Talking' but not much 'Walking'.

The common thread through the recent years is the Owner's advisers, while teams like Swansea, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Stoke have improved a lot, just look at us - a f***ing mess. I think J. K. would have been a better adviser LOL

The first game told everything, unfit players (WTF were they doing all summer), questionable skills, questionable commitment, the only good thing was the manager did the best he could with players he had.

Another thing I don't see DA staying, he is a top class manager who will not take the bull sh*t he has been sold.

Why have I got this attitude - last 3 f***ing years, how have some people have kept their jobs I do not know (well maybe I do, it's called Board room shock). If you want to know what I mean by 'Board Room Shock', I will explain in another thread.

Sorry about rant but I just see another season of not buying the Sunday Sun or watching Match of the Day on a lot of weekends.

Yes but folk keep quoting Southampton but they are pretty unique in terms of what they churn out and no other clubs got close.......

They must have a large catchment area which surely helps...........

I know they've got an academy down Bath way, get lads into that from around that area so they don't have to move to Southampton. Got some programmes with their coaches working with local schools as well as having 25 development centres. Decent read on their set up here.

Aye mate I found that out re Bale and theres more posts on it.........didn't know it was still there though.............

" The foundation raised £2,700 from the auction of the match-ball from the 8-0 win over Sunderland"

@the streaker

Inheriting a wage bill that always been stupidly high since Drumaville which is the advantage Palace has isn't either............

He's had 7yrs to sort it out thought hasn't he? No no he let clowns add millions to it and we now find ourselves in the shit we are toady. Absolutely staggering the mess the club is in because of the poor business decisions of a so called billionaire businessman.

The wage bill was around 10% higher than Palaces is now when he came here............

PL wage bills only go one way and in actual fact the ratio to turnover has improved................

Historically, Plymouth, Bristol, Swansea, Cardiff and Reading have not had PL representation for decades, so Southampton have been the main PL (ish) club for that vast swathe of country which extends virtually to the M25. Portsmouth was/is a very fringe option for most. Travel from S Wales to Bristol/Bath is relatively easy, whereas S Wales to N Wales is a pain in the butt. For decades, Southampton were the academy of choice because the had the status of PL, because they did an excellent job and also because they treat the kids well. it's more competitive now with Reading attracting a lot more, and probably Swansea and Cardiff too.

I'm starting to think it would of done us good to be relegated last year just to get these high earners off the books and hope for promotion again. What a shambles our club is paying these players with tons of cash to walk about the field. We'd like to think this can be fixed this season or next season but in reality it's going to take years to get anywhere near other teams because we have gone so far backwards.

'People keep mentioning Southampton...............'

Here's a fact. When Markus Liebherr bought Southampton in July 2009 they were in League One and were in administration.
Ellis Short invested in Sunderland in May 2008 and in May 2009 took control of SAFC who survived a second season in the Premier League.

I thought we'd already established that FFP means nowt. There are no agreed penalties yet.
Erm no................some posters have said that but theres nothing stopping them sitting down and agreeing these and say they apply to accounts for 2015/16 which would be this years wage bill but wont be reported until March 2017................

They may not but its still there and the listed sanctions haven't been written off totally...........

So nothing has been agreed and they can't retrospectively impose sanctions, can they.

This for me and has been for a good while. We are an appallingly run football club. We were supposed to be steadying the ship this season, yet 3 of the positions we are desperate to strengthen are likely to be loans, then we repeat the cycle.

At the risk of being called a happy-clapper, could it be that we are using loan signings as a necessary measure to buy breathing space while we try to reduce the wage bill?

Nothing stopping them sitting down and stating a base year for the wage bill and as I said using the trading figures for 2015/6...........

As these wont be out until 2017 any sanctions imposed actually wouldnt be handed out retrospectively..............

I expect FFP may well change with the larger TV money next year but you cant just take the risk of ignoring it......

And anyway wheres the club suddenly going to get loads more money this year from.........Its still currently making a loss and Short wont want to pour more money he more than likely wont get back down another black hole.........
