This is the start of KLD’s

I agree, it should. Just when you want to make a statement, best to plan properly as opposed to dealing with it is what it is.

No idea what they'll do, I assume it'll be someone who can speak severall languages and hopefully won't play media games with recruitment.

Joey Ba....
 Imagine!
Wearmouth Bridge would be like watching lemmings going over the cliffs.
It'd be an appointment that'd be a footballing record - every single SAFC fan united against it!

I'd rather stay down here than have that PoS anywhere near our club. He'd relegate us anyway. The players wouldn't tolerate him, for starters.

Is it not a gamble to go for an unknown with no pedigree.

I think plenty of managers who have promotion fro. The championship would be terrible for us.

I think there are many more that no one has heard of that could do great for us.

Either way, its always a gamble of sorts.

Mowbray was popular with the players that much was clear. You only have to see Amads reaction on twitter. We may have blown our chances of getting him back and who is to say the players aren’t pissed off and clarke doesn’t decide to leave. Hopefully not and a new manager gets a positive reaction but one thing i know for certain is pep wouldn’t turn them 4 kids up front into goalscorers over night. Only recruitment can sort that in jan i’m 100% certain on that. If the board make the new manager just persist with those we are in big trouble

He was still offered the gig by KS and KLD
to a short term job

this is an long term appointment with the aim to take us to the next level

Valid points but the thread was more about how this is now KLD and KS first real appointment

for what its wort players know managers/coaches wont be there long and are used to it

With some of the names that posters have put on here, I'm hoping it is someone they've not heard of or else we are in trouble!

I'm assuming the early 2000s footballers being mentioned is banter that I dont understand. Theiry Henry would be a laugh. Maybe one of the RB lads and we could form a coalition.

It's just people's limited knowledge of football outside of this country. No wonder they think we can't do any better than Mowbray,

I don't actually disagree with OP's general premise.

The two previous appointments under KLD were made to protect the club from regressing.

Alex Neill was appointed in when it was clear Lee Johnson wouldn't get the job done and achieve promotion. Neill then jumped ship with days of the window left and the club needed a 'safe pair of hands' in Tony Mowbray.

You could argue the same has happened here with Mowbray going today, but I don't think there's a genuine threat of relegation, which tells me they've made a proactive decision to instigate change and get someone more in line with what they want.

They've actually got the last two appointments right in terms of keeping the club on track, and I don't see why they can't do it again here. It's clear from his comments at the weekend that Mowbray wasn't committed to developing a young team, so getting someone that's more enthused by that will be a big plus.

Reign

This is the first time he and KS will be able to attract and get who they want

We will maybe see the new person backed and its someone they trust and have chosen to take us to the next level

Your right it’s the start of his reign. He cant dine out on promotion from the 1st division for ever.
The last 2 windows of recruitment have been an abject failure and have failed to improve the team. Add the departures of important players not replaced.

They have now taken out Mowbray who everyone knew was working with one arm tied behind his back, but making a good fist of it.

Accountability starts here, if they make a bad appointment, or indeed a good appointment and don’t back them the fans will turn quickly.

We need to hope it is a good appointment and there are players of quality coming in next window. The players are not happy with being forced to play with anyone of the 4 nuggets up front, they will not be happy with Mowbray leaving.

The new guy gets off to a bad start and we are looking over our shoulder, normal service will resume and we are back to the bad old days of the crowd calling for his head and the SOL being a challenging place to play…. It’s crippled more experienced players in the past than the current cohort.

Over to you KLD, the honeymoon period is over

Agree up to last quote which is laughable, you simply couldn’t be further from the truth. You cant compete in this league without some experience in the core of your team, it’s illogical.
If exclusively young teams could compete Man City under 21s would win the pizza cup every year

Ok, allow me to rephrase it.

Mowbray was getting tired of being overly reliant on youth in key positions - at least that's what I think he said Saturday. Now, as you say, if you could win the league with kids you'd have Man City u21s winning the Papa Johns most seasons.

At the same time, it wouldn't shock me if the owners looked at both Bournemouth and Brentford. They've been promoted in the last few years with an average age close to what's here now. So maybe you throw in one midfielder who's 26, or a striker who's 24. I don't know. What I do feel confident saying is the club decided Mowbray didn't align with their vision. I don't think he did in the summer, and I think he only drifted further from it as the season progressed, at least in terms of mentally.

If the ambition is Premier League in 6-18 months you can't have that kind of schism between manager and owner. Vincent Kompany is the top dog at Burnley and look how hard they're finding it. It's not about choosing whether we think KLD is right or Mowbray is right, it's never that cut and dry. It's about accepting that only one man will ever be behind the wheel and that's KLD. It's early enough in his tenure that we can extend some grace as he tries to get his man in and build the foundations.

Now we are in a decent position to kick in, good young squad, still within the playoffs etc

This will finally show us how ambitious the club really are.

This next appointment will be a massive indicator.

I can’t help but think it will be shite though.
