This country we live in

Genuinely don't know the answer to it all.
Tougher sentences don't seem to work.
Education doesn't work seemingly.

We could get all draconian and just lock them all away, but that just moves the problem, not fixing it.

Honestly don't know.
More police on the streets would help and even though its unpopular with some people, more stop and search with a tough sentence for anyone found to be carrying a knife. Preventative measures are key.

There's also a subsection of society that feel as though they've got nothing to lose as they don't have anything and prospects look bleak - that needs to be looked at & addressed.

Years of austerity have created some unpleasant side effects.

By fluke more than anything, I have ended up in a part of the country, in a small tight knit community, where it hasn't got that bad yet. We all know the scrotes and their families, and shit gets nipped in the bud by community. A bit like it always was back in the day.
I'm sure it's coming, but at the minute, the people are still looking after the people here.
Can't be done nationally though. It's gone too far unfortunately.

Tougher punishment for those early offenders, longer and tougher sentences need to be handed out, something that would make the offenders think twice about doing it again and not wear a jail term as a badge of honour!

It may put strain on the prison system, but make prison tougher rather than a holiday camp and save costs. Lock them up for 23 1/2 hours a day, take away all their privilege's, let them stare at 4 walls with no TV available etc. Fuck human rights!

And make sure that prisoners serve a full term, no early release etc.

Little shitcvnts like these hang around the entrance to my local Asda all the time, winding up the security staff and any shoppers who they perceive to be easy game. They have done for years and yet nothing ever gets done about it.

Is this the Grangetown one??..if so i was in just before Xmas and there was a few of them on bikes riding round the car park swearing at everyone..one told the bloke walking ahead of me to f off then he looked at me and said ‘you anarl f off’..i told him to ‘f off rat boy’ and walked away..absolute scum..if I’d reported it the police wouldn’t want to know.

I think the only way to face these down is to get a large community group together to physically intimidate these sorts of people from hanging around a certain location. Initially issue a verbal warning that they will be shit kicked if found in that location again.

Sadly the decent people you refer to have jobs, families and reputations that a criminal record will jeopardise. This is why this will never happen. It's the exact aspect of this scenario that the scrotes can take advantage of and carry on with impunity.

I'm not suggesting anything criminal. The verbal warning should suffice if delivered by a large enough group of able bodied men from the community. Saw it work well once many years ago in a rural village but it is dependent on having a good community spirit.

People saying tougher sentences - that’s worked brilliantly in America.

If you know you’re getting put away for a very long time then there’s no incentive not to inflict a more serious blow.

I don’t know what the answer is, but longer prison sentences isn’t it.

Harsher sentencing is definitely required, but its merely putting a sticking plaster over the wound.

The only real long term solution to youth social disorder begins with better parenting, which in turn needs better education and employment opportunities in deprived communities. Like most of these sorts of problems, they took generations to start (decline of heavy industry and long term unemployment) and they'll take generations to fix.

That may indeed prevent someone from committing another crime, but if you're the sort of scumbag that brings a weapon out with you, with the intention on ending someone's life with it, I really think that how tough prison is wouldn't really cross your mind.

But that's the point. The fact that these sentences aren't tough or long enough doesn't even give them anything to think about. I believe its up to a maximum of 4 years for carrying a blade in the UK, and that's only after a second offence. There's absolutely no reason why anyone should be carrying a knife about unless they intend to injure, so lock the fuckers up straight away for a long time, start making examples of people.

I'd rather the prisons are full of potential murderers, nonces etc than those doing long sentences for low impact crimes, tax fraud, small time drug dealing for example, its unlikely they'll end someone's life by their actions, unlike those carrying weapons.

I would bet that the majority of people carrying knives have no intention of using it, though.

Those that are mad enough to kill someone? I personally think that a harsh 15 or 20 years in prison isn't a deterrent.
