This 'club being tight' nonsense.

We are in trouble, we are clearly in a worse situation than many of our competitions at the moment and it's going to be a struggle to turn it round.

Tbf, we have only played one game. A win on Saturday and things look different.

I didn't really mean on the pitch although clearly that's a reflection.
Our wage bill seems to be higher than everyone else with a worse team, very few saleable assets and reliant on some ageing players. To turn that around will be difficult even if we manage to stay up this season which I think we may just have enough to do. If the aim is to progress beyond that it's going to be hard.

Great post sensible interesting and most importantly a fact based thread.

Shame it doesn't make good reading though.

Please try to understand this. I'm a little tired of having to explain this repeatedly to people.

We are not going to qualify for Europe so let's just ignore that for the minute shall we. I was also referring to a post the Exile made about points deduction in the Premier League, which you rightly recognise is completely different....so on to that one.

As you quite clearly state in the quote..... the key word is could. As things stand THERE ARE NO PENALTIES. The clubs were supposed to sit down last year and agree what exactly would be those 'severe penalties' and what 'points deductions' would apply for breaking FFP by a little and a lot... a sliding scale of points deduction depending on the offence and where to draw the line for them.

I want to be absolutely clear about this because you and a lot of others continue to get this wrong.

To date they have not done this. Consequently there are actually no penalties. Nor are they going to sit down anytime soon and decide it? Highly unlikely with the big uplift in TV money coming at the end of this season. They certainly have not done anything about this season. When/If they do they will not be able to apply them retrospectively.

Do you understand that?

What are we left with?

This - There are no penalties for breaking Premier League FFP. Once again.... THIS IS A FACT.
Woah there jackie lad.

Two points. 1. The rules of ffp, uefa and prem, are known. Retrospective punishments will likely be enforced as they even stipulated the seasons that the rules apply. 2. If we broke ffp i would hope its with the express aim of qualifying for europe. Otherwise, what the fuck is the point?

They cannot apply things retrospectively when they have not made clear the criteria of penalty. It simply won't work and they won't agree it themselves. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. And given the uplift in TV money at the end of this year it is inconceivable that they will apply that outdated financial model.

Anyway... the upshot remains.

There are no penalties.

Yes there are. Uefa have their penalties. See point 2. If we did splash out the cash but had no intention of qualifying for europe, then what the fuck is the point?

I said this two years ago when someone asked why were we overtaken by Stoke....

The clubs that have had a rough time in lower leagues are debt free as they've been through real survival in terms of existence and have zero debt, for some due to administration.

They've progressed back up the league structure with sensible principles and worked on scouting and development. They are extremely 'lean' and perfectly placed for FFP.

The clubs that have been in Premier League a while, the ones that went through the debts don't matter stage and are now completely riddled with baggage. They increased their debts season after season to ensure they stayed in the league as relegation was increasingly unthinkable.

We are one of those.

People go on about Short. But with the situation he inherited and FFP I don't think there is much room to manoeuvre any more, we have completely painted ourselves into a corner.

Ellis did of course attempt to wipe it clean with Di Fanti, getting shot of the very average yet very high wage earners, in one swoop, but it completely backfired and we ended up keeping the high wage earners and the shite brought in as nobody wants them even to this day. That is the only criticism I would level at Ellis Short, that period was a bit of a shocker.

Today we can't properly invest as wages are up at limit, the squad is full of absolute garbage that we can't get shot of.

We are stuck in a rut.

Absolutely wrong.

There are no penalties for breaking FFP. The entire league has yet to sit down and agree any. That's a fact and there's no arguing this.

This season has started and there cannot be any retrospective penalties. They obviously won't agree anything for next season because every club will want to spend the shed load of money we're all going to get.

I'll say it again, just to be absolutely clear.

THERE ARE NO PENALTIES FOR BREAKING FFP

Watch how fast it gets sorted if one of the also-rans starts to spend big.

We need to survive first.

Quit talking about Europe we're a mile away from that. We need to break Premier League FFP rules. These are the ones the club and the Echo keep talking about not European one.

It's bullshit. There are no penalties. FACT.

Watch how fast it gets sorted if one of the also-rans starts to spend big.

eeerrr.... The also rans obviously won't agree to it.... so it won't be agreed and come into force.

Also even if that happen at some point a few seasons from now it does not get away from the FACT that there are no penalties for breaking it now and that it's not going to be applied retrospectively.

So the club and the Echo using it as an excuse now is utter bollocks.

That makes really interesting reading. Just a Curly Wurly and a box of Tic Tacs. I was sure there was a bag of Quavers involved somewhere.
I think I read somewhere that Karen Brady offers the gentlemen favours also - maybe they get to watch what they like on telly, for instance.

There are. Uefa penalties.

Yes there are but....

WTF UEFA penalties could they possibly apply to us. A transfer ban??? I'd take that if we had a squad that made the top six and broke it. Utterly ludicrous claiming this is stopping us purchasing players to save us from another relegation battle. Listen to yourself.

Also get into your head that the Echo and the Club are never talking about this when they talk about it.

They are though

They are though

No they are not.

You are wrong. Short, the Echo and the Club are all talking about Premier League FFP.

Precisely because there really are no UEFA FFP sanctions that would make a sod of difference to us and we are no where near competing in any UEFA competition.

Seriously are you claiming that we must adhere to it in trying to avoid relegation. Utterly irrelevant and absolutely wrong.
