[Third test] England v Australia - Perth

This is what happens when you pick players based on their county.

I am quite sure the players were picked purely based on what they thought was the best team to win the Ashes and nothing else.

Its like the England football team mentally not strong enough, there was no players left at home apart from Stokes who would have made any difffrence imo.

feel sorry for those who've booked up to travel over for the 4th and 5th tests... i've got tix for day 3 of the 5th test and the only reason i'm still going is that i'm catching up with a mate i haven't seen all year.
Same here I've got day 1 & 2 and it's only because friends from the UK are travelling over to watch the Melbourne and Sydney tests that I'm still going.
How many humiliating ashes series defeats have we been through ffs.
Our friends are landing in Melbourne this morning with the ashes gone before they arrive. The lack of fight in this side is embarrassing.

Me and two other lads arriving in Melbourne on Saturday. Tinge of disappointment that it's already gone, just got to enjoy the holiday...all the more reason to have to go back in the future when we've got a chance of winning!

Unbelievable isn't it.

But not at all surprising
Nothing surprises me about the ECB these days. Every man an his dog could tell that the squad they picked was unbalanced and lacking in options. It was First XI plus some others
Same happened last winter. By the time we got to India, Ballance was unselectable and quickly Duckett went the same way meaning we had to play Buttler as a specialist Batsman

Just adds to the completely muddled feeling surrounding the squad.

@Steak Pie called it well in the inquest thread. We selected Finn as our out and out quick, with Wood waiting in the wings. Yet when these 2 were unavailable due to fitness, we go to Curran who is a mid-80s bowler.

There's a lot of confusing, muddled decisions that make no sense whatsoever

Not to mention only selecting 1 backup batsman and one totally out of form too!

Foakes is decent though
But a wicket keeper and uncapped at Test level. Not a viable option IMHO. No back up opener, no right hander to break up the swathe of left handers just itching to edge Lyon to slip. Selectors have to go.....as does Bayliss, but they won't because they want him for the 2019 WC

Which was that?
Wickets six to ten contributions for both sides

England average about 50 for all of them, the Aussies getting on towards 200

Happens nearly every series in Australia. Who wins that, win the series

They have helped Smith and the marsh's to run up big hundreds

Our lads have capitulated everytime
