Things you learnt at school you have never used - ever.

A lot of the things that people learned at school were simply facilitating the process of learning how to learn.
...and therein lay much of the problem for a lot of students, as not everyone has the ability to learn by the same method. Some teacher standing at the front spouting on about something you can't follow, then scrawling at 1000 words a minute illegibly on a balackboard, stuff that you had to copy into your own book, and try to decipher at a later date, did not suit everyone. Complete waste of time for a lot of us.

I think you’ll find, or at least I hope you will, that things have moved on since you and I were at school.

I’d imagine that learning styles and a variety of teaching methods are used. Or at least I hope so. I was certainly an enthusiastic advocate of utilising all sorts of methods and media for the major part of my career in adult learning & development over 25 years.

It certainly has changed immensely since the dark days of the '50's , 60's etc. For my part I realised that I can only learn effectively by reading books, not by someone at the front trying to teach and explain. We have friends who have a son who has all his work printed on yellow paper as that is how he can see the lettering better. Kids with his condition would have been left well behind in the mid 20th centuary.
