Thickies who get scammed should not be refunded

It's a well-known fact that the more educated you are, the more likely you voted Remain, and the less educated you are, the more likely you voted Leave.

Brexit votes by education level 2016 | Statista
Aye, but correlation doesn’t imply causation. Education levels are also symptomatic of demography, advantageous/disadvantageous life chances, social networks and myriad other things.

To try draw a conclusion from simplistic data like that is silly. But you’d be surprised how many well educated people make such simple mistakes.

Nothing you've said contradicts the fact that the more educated you are, the more likely you voted Remain, and the less educated you are, the more likely you voted Leave.

Of course there are people of below-average intelligence that have a high level of education, and people of above-average intelligence with no education at all. At both ends of the spectrum, they are the outliers though, rather than the "norm".

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that this is one of the reasons why not all degree-educated people voted remain and not all people with no education at all voted to leave. ;)

Well, that and the fact that there will be some educated people that are also xenophobes. ;)

I got scammed On a fake passport website about 10 year ago. Filled in details and paid the lot, went to Durham passport office to pick it up as per appointment and details

When asked for my passport at appointment they were like well we need to fill in form and you need to pay and it wil take a few weeks etc

Anyway i’d paid this website to book me an appointment, about 100 quid. Bastards. 😂😂

there are a load of those that charge you for things you get free on a GOV.UK site... you live you learn

if only there was a thread, nay a dedicated sub-forum to discuss such matters

The amount of these scam texts doing the rounds at the minute is insane, everyone seems to be getting them.

The scam emails have really upped in quality too. Not often I'll get them, but had the odd one through pretending to be from PayPal which looked legit and would definitely have conned a few.

I got an email one yesterday from HMRC about my self assessment return.

I prepare tax returns for a living and liaise with HMRC everyday and I genuinely have no idea if it's real or not.

I'm not in self assessment but I can't tell If they have put me in by mistake.

They have my full name, the icons look legit, the hyperlinks look legit, it doesn't ask for payments etc. It just telling me the importance of submitting my tax return early and to follow a link which look legit for more info.

Obviously I will not click on anything and just call them up and ask what they are playing at.

If I was in SA I probably would have fell for it. If it is a scam?????

I once got a letter from Sky, proper letter head, exact figures that I was paying at the time, it was telling me I was due to a refund of around £6 or so.

The scam was in the number you had to phone, it was some premium number.

To me it looked like an inside job and I can totally understand anyone falling for it.

It won't even be scammers he's abusing.

It will be the poor folk up and down the country working in outbound contact centres having to ring him because he's too thick not to opt out of calls on the dodgy websites he's signing up to.
Outbound contact centre worker wanker alert............ or Charles from Mumbai.

I got done on a passport one too.. but I did a bit of research...

Found out the chunt behind it lived fairly close by and asked for my money back or else.

Told him a few bits I'd found out rather quickly

Couple emails and refunded

The £69 from passport direct.
One of your many many domains.
I admire the ingenuity of it and the end of the day i don't care how you choose to make a living however i don't paticularly enjoy falling for it myself.

No doubt your sister assists in ensuring you stay on the correct side of the law.

I would appreciate a refund.
Essex can be a small place.

Thanks

But it did point out that any inference that assumed intelligence, through the proxy of education, was a driving factor of how someone voted in the referendum was not a given at all.

And I don't think you really understand what intelligence is given the rest of your post.

Many highly intelligent (by traditional measures) and very well educated people don't perform any better than the average with causal reasoning when moved to work outside of their well understood areas of specialisation. That's possibly why there are many intelligent people who don't understand why people voted for Brexit and simply put it down to lack of intelligence.

😀wish I’d looked into it now.

I got one pretending about Hermes trying to get me to click on a link for “redelivery,” last week. And to be fair, anyone who fell for that deserves locking up.

Everyone knows Hermes don’t do redeliveries, they just deliver your parcel to the nearest bin.
Not always the nearest either - I sent a parcel worth about £100, signed for of course - The lass I sent it to said it hadn't arrived, Heremes said it was left 'next door' - after a right chew on I got thru to some bloke, who was very good - he said the signed for is worthless due to covid but he'd have a look at the photo the delivery driver took - the lass lived in a block of flats, the parcel was at a completely different block of flats left in the hallway ffs

I haven't "simply" put it down to anything. My initial post on the first page was obviously tongue-in-cheek, designed to provoke a reaction from the original poster, based on the stereotype of Brexit voters being "thickies".

Of course there were many reasons why people voted Brexit, and people from all across the education and intelligence spectrums that voted that way.

Mainly the thickies and racists, like, ;) but sure, there were others too, like the super-rich folks that were betting against the pound to make shedloads of cash for themselves when the country screwed itself.

I got it as well. I think it's genuine but I deleted it as I've always sent mine in early anyway. Probably still in my deleted box, I'll have a look.

Edit: Had a quick look, it's genuine.
