They get Benfica, we get... relegated?

In 1940 my old man's old man ran the Mackem Home Guard.

He faced cowardly quislings persuaded by the Mag's tempting propoganda that this nation should submit to the Yoke of Fascist imperialism.

He faced those who claimed to be part of our tribe yet displayed an ideological fever that only the cool relief of democratic socialism could temper.

We have fought your like for our entire history.

The next 3 months will be a time for mackem heroes to rise.

Nobody is buying it anymore you mag prick.

Fair play to them, they've done well with a smallish squad to get to the quarters of a major European competition. I wouldn't bet against them either. They have players of the calibre of Tiote, sissoko and Cabaye, and play pretty decent attacking football, whilst I watch the turgid rubbish dished up by a dreary set of players and a manager with no ideas.

Same old same old. Am I jealous? Yes. In my 45 years of watching Sunderland, I can't really remember any time other than fleetingly for a couple of seasons when we've been better than them. They seem at the moment to have their club geared up to spending money wisely, doing their homework and getting value for money. We've consistently skunked millions on trash and employed dinosaur managers.

Time to go back to the drawing board Ellis, and although it sticks in my craw to say it, take a leaf out of their book. Get rid of this dreary manager and replace him with someone with ideas and a philosophy. Preferably foreign. Have a 3 - 5 year plan to get rid of the current squad except talented youngsters and replace them with quality. I've had enough of living in their f***ing shadow!!!

Tiote is shyte. I am exceptionally jealous they got Sissoko though.

Pardew doesn't buy the players and is tactically clueless. Most Mags hate him.... several times he's been 1-0 behind in a game and makes a defensive substitution.

We are getting rid of our mediocre squad and more will go this summer I've no doubt.

MoN will do well next year. Bookmark this post.

Mag.

I was gutted and pleased at the same time that they drew Benfica. Benfica are my fave foreign team - immense tradition, great past players, impressive stadium, most successful club in Portugal, one of the best supported teams in the world - i would have loved to have gone there and seen us. On the other hand, after maybe Spurs, it was the hardest tie they could have faced and very likely will go out, plus it will give me the opportunity to watch Benfica twice, albeit on an ESPN stream.

They've done nowt for about 20 years man. I wiki'd their team and could hardly name one player, apart from Cardozo. Celtic qualified ahead of them in the champions league. Porto are by far the best team in Portual

He was shite against Stoke and not half as good as some on here have suggested.

Thanks for providing the stats to back up my point marra

In same period, Porto have won FOURTEEN league titles, 9 portugese cups, 13 supercups, champions league and 2 UEFA cup. it is a 2 horse race after all
