They get Benfica, we get... relegated?

Fair play to them, they've done well with a smallish squad to get to the quarters of a major European competition. I wouldn't bet against them either. They have players of the calibre of Tiote, sissoko and Cabaye, and play pretty decent attacking football, whilst I watch the turgid rubbish dished up by a dreary set of players and a manager with no ideas.

Same old same old. Am I jealous? Yes. In my 45 years of watching Sunderland, I can't really remember any time other than fleetingly for a couple of seasons when we've been better than them. They seem at the moment to have their club geared up to spending money wisely, doing their homework and getting value for money. We've consistently skunked millions on trash and employed dinosaur managers.

Time to go back to the drawing board Ellis, and although it sticks in my craw to say it, take a leaf out of their book. Get rid of this dreary manager and replace him with someone with ideas and a philosophy. Preferably foreign. Have a 3 - 5 year plan to get rid of the current squad except talented youngsters and replace them with quality. I've had enough of living in their f***ing shadow!!!

I know we all laugh at the way they like to think of themselves as a big club. Maybe if you think big you'll get your rewards. We seem to happy to just get by. And that's why wer'e in the mess we are now.

i highly doubt mon has taken this job with a 'that'll do' philosophy.

they have bought well, and why appoint a foreign manager when clearly we need to take a leaf out of the mags book and appoint a recently sacked league 1 manager

This. I see the clappers are out to shoot me down. It must be a special gift to be able to draw comfort from the shit we've been fed this season (and most recent seasons come to that). I salute you.

I don't really care what happens up the road, more concerned with our own progress (or lack of it)

Whilst they are a good model for how to run a football club, it shouldn't be forgotten that they are only 3 points ahead of us, and have only jumped above us following our poor run in last 6 weeks.

Completely agree I am not sure if MON will be with us in the summer even if we stay up, think he may walk.

so what's your view of the mags getting allardyce the sack because he didn't play the newcastle way which lead to their relegation?

and would you appoint a recently sacked league one manager because ellis plays cards with him?

Well said like I have said before though, us as supporters should share some of the blame for accepting the idea that we as a club prefer hard working heaps of shite such as Danny Collins did he really win player of the year twice ? Dear god, we have to change our whole set up behind the scenes and start signing some proper footballers for a change a few who are quite good at the 100 metres would be nice as well.

which brings me to another thing that bugs me, people have been slagging safc and praising nufc for well over a month despite tham having only been above us for 1 week, you'd think they were at least in the top half of the table.
