so the story goes: their first album only sold 10,000 copies but everyone who bought went out and started a band

    • Roxy music
    • Bowie
    • Arctic Monkeys
    • Talking Heads
    • Joy Division
    • The white Stripes
    • U2
    • Nirvana
    • The Kooks
    • Flaming Lips
    • REM
    • Morrissey
    • Sex Pistols
Has there ever been a more influential band, ever?

The Kooks? Much as I really like The Velvet Underground, that's more of a dog turd on the forehead than a recommendation.

Sister Ray is a better yarn than anything Mark Twain ever wrote and is more digestible

Apparently the track She Moves In Her Own Way was an homage to Maureen Tucker and an attempt to acknowledge her playing bins over drums

I doubt Steve Jones bought a copy as he used to just nick everything

America is mental - they romanticise manifest destiny and some daft declaration but don’t pay permanent respect to their greatest ever export

At one point, Berlin was to music what the Sunderland academy is to the England national team

Baring 4 or 5 decent songs, probably the most overrated band in the history of modern music (imho)

    He’s a big Chelsea fan
  18. I've still got the one I bought 50 years ago from a shop called Strand which used to be where Idols pub is/was.

I’m slowly getting into them like. Stuck the Velvet Underground radio on Spotify on a few times coming home from work. Need to give them more of a careful listen.

Lou Reed fell out with the band making loaded and I don’t think he is on some of the songs. Great album though.
