right

20% of 1,000,000 is 200k right? 20% of 20 k is 4k right?

so who pays more? , never mind 50% and you wonder why avoidance is rife, its a nod and a wink , everyone knows the tax laws are fundamentaly unfair or biased and the higher tax brackets are there to placate the lower income/working class ,so they think the rich are taxed way more
if the rich were really taxed at 50% there would be a brain drain ,as before, flight of capiatl and a stunt in economic growth(why bother working just to hand over half)

Well I did try and move the thread back on track "unemployment and slagging off the unemployed" but you keep bringing the Tax dodgers into it!
I for one don't buy into this so called brain drain, as you said yourself "money has no flag"
so there must be a reason why the so called Huber rich continue to live here, Shorely there must some Mediterranean Tax haven, that would suit their needs?
what do you think it is? the nice uniforms our policemen wear! or the changing of the guard maybe?
I'm at a miss as to what's attracts these people to live in a land that's awash with chavers holding out begging bowls on every street corner and job centre, maybe you could enlighten me Walt?

They could go. They might find the other man's grass isn't always greener. How much of their cash is spent in the UK economy anyway?

Not sure what your figures there are supposed to show, but at the end of the day it's what you are left with that matters most, and anybody paying the 50% will still have a very comfortable life.

Right.

20% of 1,000,000 is 200,000 that leaves 800,000 right.
20% of 20,000 is 4,000 that leaves 16,000
I´m sure it would be easier to manage on 800,000 than 16,000 although this years new porche might have to go on hold whereas trying to cope on 16,000 will be a choice between new shoes for the kids or no family holiday.

Countries like Denmark have as normal a 50% tax rate for working people but they don´t all leave. They see on a daily basis what their society gets for their money and the social benefits for the majority of people. They consent to it. Taxation rates is a red herring used by greedy people to justify their greed.
Last post from me on tax......back on topic.

So they would give all that up, if they were charged a fair rate of tax?
you know! if you enjoy the benefits of living in a civilised society
then it's only fair that you contribute to that society and nine times out of ten, these people have gained their considerable wealth, by exploiting the weaker members of that society, one would almost think that high unemployment might even favour these people to carry out their business in such a way..;)

<cough>atcher.

I honestly don't understand why people have a problem with people who earn lots of money. And I really don't understand why people get upset about tax avoidance. They are living within the law so I don't think they are doing anything wrong, why should they throw their money away when they don't have to.

I'm due a tax refund of about £250 from last year. Is it morally wrong that I ask for it back, I am legally entitled to?

Here's a random question on an 'honourable job'

person A is employed and person B is unemployed. Person A works in sales, cold-calling members of the public and flogging them things they neither need nor particularly want or can even afford. Person A is good at his job and good at making people feel they need this product or service he's selling. He's earning loads in commission - rightly or wrongly, he's considered a high flyer.

person B is unemployed but spends most of his time volunteering for the Samaritans....he answers calls from the distressed and depressed and on a daily basis convinces suicidal people their life is worth living. He doesn't get paid and is technically and legally unemployed...so I ask you...

who does the most honourable job??

100% correct. But on the same lines we should be squeezing them until the pips squeak. And they shouldn't really moan about it if we did.

Of course, something doesn't actually have to be illegal before it's considered wrong, or before we can get upset about it. Laws are to a certain extent arbitrary and can or should be changed. Would you consider it wrong for a law to be passed exempting the top 5% say, from any tax?

Life is only so if we allow it to be, the forelock tuggers are the link that enables these rouges to carry out their business in such a way! there's always been a need for a good grass, or squealer, a sycophant willing to split on his brother for another bite of the crust!
It's like a line of command, break it and it all falls down.

If things keep heading in the same direction, it may well be the Rich that are being sun dried and used as fire lighters, the one thing that modern society have that it didn't in the past, is instant communication, if things get so bad that it awakens the morons from their hibernation, it wouldn't take long for things to change dramatically.

And that's not included our 1.2% Church Tax for members of the Church of Denmark or tax on fatty & sugary food and drinks. Or even our 25% VAT on absolutely everything. But like you so rightly say we get a lot back through a good, free health care and likewise education system. Not to mention the arts. I would rather pay my 51.2% tax and our high VAT than pay less and not have the benefits that come from it, which we all seem to agree on is a good thing. We have the highest tax rate in the world but without it our welfare system would simply collaps as result.

But then the flip is:

Person A earns lots, goes over his tax threshold and pays tax on his wages and commission. Therefore helping to support Person B while they look for a job/work Samaritans. Swings and roundabouts. ;)
