The term "scratter"

Urban Dictionary description:

Miserable ignorant track-suit wearing trash exemplifying the shit-encrusted population of the British Isles. Abusive dole-scum. The reason today's elderly would rather starve away in their own homes than take a 50-yard trip down to the shops. See also scally and scut-dog.

My family have used the term "scratting around" as long as I can remember, used in the context of scrimping and saving, or looking for something you have misplaced.
e.g. "I'm scratting around for some veggies to put in the stew"
I found out a few months ago that the SMB definiton of scratter is different.

Anyone else remember or still use the term "Scaffing" or "You Scaffer"?
Usually involved people finding things picking things up or cadging stuff

What does a chav girl use as protection during sex?

A bus shelter.

You ok there back in 2001?

Was it invented on here? This was the first place I ever remember seeing it about 10 years ago or so.

Anyhow, it now appears to have spread nationwide...

"But the review is not even really just taking aim at the homeless and so-called scratters (feckless people who wear tracksuits)".

I dunno about scatters but the arsehole per sq inch figures are generally off the scale in Hants.
