I think no. 3 packs a real punch when you read the accompanying text.

It's interesting that some of them only give their full effect when the context is explained to you. Others, such as the winner, have full impact without any additional words. Although I do agree the composition of the winner isn't quite right: you can't see the full horse for a start.

I don't think you need to see the full horse, the picture would lose impact if you showed the full horse. It is entitled "Huntress with Buck" (iirc) - you can see the huntress and buck, the fact she is sitting on a horse just shows how she went hunting, seeing the full horse wouldn't add anything. This is my humble opinion of course!:)

1 and 5 would be my choices, though obviously 3 and 4 have sad tales, and the expression on 4's face is well captured. The model in 2 has hairy armpits, which isn't very British, don't know what the news story was about (female circumcision perhaps? - and she is uncircumcised?) - probably need to see the full picture.

Thoughts?

not really sure to be honest. The lighting's nice but I think the composition looks a bit cramped, and she has a pretty cold expression on her face as well

Think I prefer 4th place out of those 5. Quite a sad one with that poor lass showing quite a bit of emotion there. I like the DoF in it too.

Agree with all that, and the bit in bold was exactly my reaction when I saw it earlier in the week.

It has the ingredients to be a striking photo, but lacks the execution. The 4th one is superb.

2 is just a picture that was taken for private consumption, made public. No real story behind it other than that.

Our lass would be ower the moon if I posted a picture into an international competition of her with her beef curtains out.

The judges want to head over to YouPorn and type in 'ex girlfriend'.

Loads of 'art' there.

Can't see anything in that picture that makes it come 2nd, it doesn't meet it's title , it's ugly and uninspiring.
