The Super spoilery Star Wars : The Last Jedi spoilers thread *don't even put your mouse over it*

Actually enjoyed this more than the Force Awakens, felt it had a better storyline. My main positives were...
Nice surprise seeing Yoda, wouldn’t be a Star Wars Film without the green spud turning up.
Good to see the Emperor’s Guard actually do something than stand around looking all important.
I like the way Luke went at the ending, rather fitting for him. Don’t think this will be the last time we will see him, probably turn up as a ghostly advisor to Rey.

My main gripes:
Lea’s superhuman resurrection, not only would that blast killed her, but no way could she have survive the vacuum of space for that length of time.
What was the point of Snoke, if he was all that omnipresent surely he would have had a back up plan in the likelihood of his death, he is certainly no Palpatine.
That casino scene????
Kylo Ren still comes off as a stroppy spoilt brat, to me General Hux should killed the little shit off and taken over, Hux to me was what the Empire/First Order represented... pure evil

To be fair I really think they got Rogue One spot on...both because it isn't full of existing characters and because it didn't feel like a cash in even though it was.

Solo for instance is a massive cash in. Maybe Rian Johnson's new trilogy "set in a different part of space" will be better-although why it has to be branded star wars is beyond me.

Didn't like Rogue one at all, couldn't give a fuck about any of the characters.

58% audience score on rotten tomatoes.

It’s proving to be the big pile of shit that it is now people around the world are seeing it
Haway man, it’s hardly a pile of shit. It’s certainly in the top 4. Better than rogue one and TFA.

Anyway, what do audiences know? Critic score is 93% - you know, people who’s job it is to critique movies and whose opinion I trust more than some chancers on here.

Came away hugely disappointed. So many missed opportunities, wrong decisions and direction, needless scenes, settings and character.

The whole thing just didn't sit right with me at all.
I came out buzzing. It must have been a real shame to have not liked it, although I don’t know how.

Why? Anyone can watch a film and review it. What makes the people who get paid for it so special.

Lee Ryder gets paid to write sport stories meaning he is a journalist. He writes utter shit though.

For what it’s worth though I hated it more than any of the others though it was by no means the worst film. I’d rank it 2nd worst with Attack of the Clones the absolute worst.

I think the humour is just aimed at kids generally. It's a family film. The daft call with Poe and the Ginge at the start set the tone as "we're not going to take ourselves too seriously here". It's entertainment at the end of the day, and I was thoroughly entertained for most of the 152 minutes. I understand why some people won't have enjoyed it, but imho they need to get a grip. Was it a 10/10 masterpiece? No, there were daft bits and some of it felt out of place and odd. But it's f***ing Star Wars. The "out with the old and in with the new" theme ran through the film, perhaps the people who "hated it" should try that and take the film for what it is.

Get a grip of what? The directors neck??

End of the day it’s a shit film and I won’t be going to see the next one.

If you thought it was good then fair play and hope you enjoy the next one.

You quoted my post before I went back and edited it.
Even if you don't go and see the next one, there'll be countless new fans who will do so in your place.

Without a doubt - but I do think it will lose its appeal. For example when the new batch of movies come out I'd be very surprised if it breaks box office records as previous films have.

I just don’t understand how any true Star Wars fan didn’t enjoy it. Maybe if you were a highbrow cinema fan and were expecting Citizen Kane in space?
Let’s look at Episode 4. The story is a simple rescue the princess fairy tale. But you could drive a sand crawler through the plot holes. Yet we forgave all that and loved it cos it was different to anything else we’d seen before. It was 2 hours of escapism. And we loved the characters. And it was funny.
Now, 40 years later, here were are pulling the new one to pieces cos it’s full of plot holes and it’s funny?
It’s still 2 hours of escapism, with many of the same characters, but it’s now deemed shite cos we are grown ups and we are cynical and we’ve seen it alll before. We demand a more complicated story and better character development. Yes, it could have been better, but so could any film.
But I bet if you were a kid and had never seen a Star Wars film you would absolutely love it.

Saw it late last night, thought it was average at best. Would have been much better if the light comedy was more balanced and not shoehorned in wherever possible. Kept expecting Leslie Neilsen to poke his head around the corner of a scene.

Dont get me wrong there were some decent bits, loved the fight scenes, the ending and the millennium falcon through the salt caves but that's about it.

Best performance was definitely from Mark Hamill.

I'm a Star Wars fan and thought the story was decent, special effects were brilliant, acting was OK but the volume of slapstick comedy was way over the top.

As an example the multiple scenes with Chewie and the Porgs weren't needed at all, purely there so Disney can sell some soft toys.

Really enjoyed The Force Awakens and Rogue One but this missed the mark IMO.

The irony of complaining about Disney selling toys when SW invented merch.

I suppose the difference was that when Star Wars came out everything was brand new. The characters were all new complete with amazing never before seen special effects.

Where this one fails for me is it tramples on everything that has gone on before. I mean take Yoda. That should have been class but they make him the stupid Muppet Fozzy Bear character that first appears to Luke in Empire Strikes Back....and so despite all the shit that has occurred previously he only comes back to see Luke at that point and sets light to a tree.

And then we have Luke himself. Destroys the Death Star, fights Vader twice and destroys the Empire but now he can't even be arsed to leave his planet to try and save the rebels and instead projects himself as some sort of weird vision that even robots can see!!!!

TFA was all “whoooo it’s proper SW again” but on reflection was a badly acted remake.

R1 was good but didn’t have the familiar characters so it didn’t feel like a SW film.

This was better than them both for me.
