The Sun Banned

The Mags banned their local paper and also haven't had to put up with the coverage we've been given since we ditched the media's chum O'Neill and brought in Di Canio. The Sun dedicated 2 or 3 front pages to Di Canio, helped blow the story out of proportion and nearly forced his resignation and what would have been almost certain relegation. This was probably the final straw. I don't know what the 'rules' are on naming teams before the official announcement, but it doesn't happen often, particularly when there's been so many changes and the manager is looking to spring a surprise. Maybe the decision to ban them was a little OTT but I can understand why they did it

The Sun (or any media) don't have an agenda against man, they reported the PDC stuff because it was very newsworthy, if they didn't report it they would actually be shown to have an agenda in our favour. Every club thinks the press/media are against them. They aren't, they just say negative things about us because we're shit.

Same as in pre-season the media was predicting us to struggle and on here all you get is "it's inly because they love MON and have an agenda". No, it's because their professional opinion was that our players and manager were f***ing horrific, and they got it spot on.

Some of our fans need to f***ing grow up, as does the club. Shameful craic banning newspapers

So the appointment of a bloke who had managed and played in the country for years previous without any or very little mention of his political beliefs then becomes newsworthy enough to warrant 2 or 3 front pages of a national newspaper? And if they hadn't done that, it would have shown an agenda in our favour? Get real man. It was sensationalist reporting, typical of the Sun.

We don't know what sort of restrictions clubs place on papers but as I said previous naming the team hours prior to the match doesn't happen often if at all. I can understand why the club were annoyed with them.

The majority of his controversial, fascism leaning actions were after leaving England as a player. He was genuinely fine at Swindon, but as we're a PL club we were always going to be under a lot more scrutiny (that's the deal, you want to be in with the big boys you have to take the spotlight on you). Add to that Miliband stepping down and the Durham miners thing, but aye The Sun shouldn't have mentioned it at all. It wasn't newsworthy  and it wasn't just the Sun it was all media.

Seriously man, people need to get their heads out their arses and realise that the media couldn't give a fuck about us one way or another. They will report on us and give opinions which aren't swayed by bias or agenda. Get over yourselves.

Eh? There are line ups in my paper this morning and every Saturday morning.

All the shit storm around him being a Nazi etc happened when he had left the UK, so not very newsworthy for the general public.

Same with him taking the Swindon job. Hardly any interest for that level of football.

Premier League, different story; huge interest in this country and any big scandal will hit the front pages. The reaction would have happened irrespective of who appointed him. Anyhow, the paper is distributed regional so that might not have been a 2 or 3 page front page elsewhere in the country. The screenshot I saw last night only showed the current story as a snippet on the back-page. The one I saw in the shop this morning had it as the lead back page story.

And being sensational is part of The Sun's manifesto.

Comical from SAFC, newspaper banned for CORRECTLY naming the team is a new one on me, yet another embarrassing episode for SAFC under the watch of Margaret Byrne. This would never have happened under Sir Niall's tenure.

Byrne's alright, man.

Aye, petty and counter-productive, bad move by the club and if it's for a 'bigger' reason the club should come out and say it, just because we've banned them doesn't mean they can print stuff about us, and it won't be good.

We have spent 22 years letting the press get away with undermining and condescending representation. they treat us as the poor breathern who live in that town in the suburb of Newcastle where no one wants to go or play.. All the negative stuff comes from the press.

No it doesn't. It comes from the fact we, and have been, shit for the last 22 years

So what would you do to change this? I genuinely couldn't give a shit as I never buy them, but banning is not the answer, especially for something as lame as a line-up, like as been said say fuck all if you don't want summat to get out. You live and learn.

Don't know if this has been said already

SAFC 'Haway Sun Editor, who is the leak at the club'

SUN EDITOR 'Not tellin'

SAFC 'Get te fuck then and stay away until you release the name to us so we can take disciplinary'

Fair enough that I reckon[DOUBLEPOST=1396104167][/DOUBLEPOST]

Lets just let the media walk all over us then, leave it as it is. Lets just retain the 'little ol Sunderland' tag. Nice club no bollocks who everyone else takes the piss out of. Sometimes if you want respect you have got to stand up for yourselves.

looking at it now and seeing the pathetic way some journos are going on I'm pleased they're banned, they leaked a big tactical change and whatever you say that hinders our surprise elements against Liverpool.

they're going on ridiculous with with Graham Anderson as well, basically making out he's a company man, I'm sure they think Lee ryder is a gift from the literary gods.

Most of those are just guesses. This was obviously leaked info from someone in the club.

Did I say that? One thing to not mention it at all and another to make it front page news over more than one day. And I know it wasnt just the Sun. But they were the ones who pushed it to the forefront. We appointed Di Canio on the Sunday night and it was a frontpage story on the Monday IIRC. The Durham Miners thing had nothing to do with the Sun's reporting as it came after.

Maybe it would have happened to any PL club who appointed him, but I was pointing out why the club might already be pissed off with the Sun.

Yet another example of this board being absolutely all over any tiny reason to have a pop at the club.[DOUBLEPOST=1396105980][/DOUBLEPOST]
The only reason that might be justified is if this particular journalist deliberately breached a confidence, after agreeing not to. Even then, the club should sanction the journalist and not the paper.

As far as I can tell, we don't know that this happened. He could've got the info in any number of ways outside of pure guesswork, any of which would make this ridiculous from the club.

How many Sun journos report on our club, exactly?

And why, when we don't know the full story, are Sunderland supporters immediately backing a f***ing tabloid over the club?

Spavin as wtdog.

You may not have been aiming that at me, but for the record, I wasn't backing 'a f***ing tabloid'. I was outlining the various possibilities, and stating what I feel would and wouldn't be justified by a football club against a newspaper in these.
