The Summer rebuild.

I think that's disingenuous.

And wasn't exactly what Speakman said.

The system needs proving prior to scaling.

No one is saying this is the only way to go about things nor that it's foolproof.

It's just the absolute base that a football club our size should be using due to being 9 times out of 10 better than the old fashioned way, plus it enlarges the scope immeasurably.

Did you happen to read the continuance of your Barnsley thread the other day?

Lee Johnson will have the final say on Sunderland’s transfer dealings this summer, according to Kristjaan Speakman.

"it has to be a player that Lee wants to pick in the team, otherwise there’s absolutely zero point. So if you like, the final decision is Lee’s.”

Seems pretty straight forward to me mind.

there was contxt around it as well like

There's still a 60%/turnover limit apparently. The owner can make a share issue to increase turnover and he can buy players too. He can also spend on development without falling foul of the rules.
I'm fairly certain you can get around this scmp limit with what is essentially cash injections from the owner.

What slightly concerns me is the club is owed about 15 million from donald. Id hoped that would come into the club after he sold up, or at least sold his majority stake. If the budget is being reduced that to me is probably suggesting this isn't going to happen.

Wednesday are screwed as well mate. They aren't even paying their players wages and haven't filed accounts. correct me if the info is wrong. their ownership situation appears worrying

So far as the accounts are concerned, it looks like the CH extension of 3 months is still in place. They're showing as not due until July. It looks like KLD has chosen no to exercise that right for our accounts.

Yeah I mentioned the cash injection angle and I'm sure Donald has wrote that debt off himself

remember though the club has been runing at huge lossesthis year because of the pandemicand the owner (s) will be putting the cash in to cover that, meaning there wont bemuchsccope to put more in for wages...as i think ownersare only allowed to put 9 million a season in or something like that

Fair enough if so.

Did you listen to it, it was used in the context of cohesion.

So if everyone is working towards the same strategy, there is no reason LJ shouldn't like the players provided.

It was the same thing with Di Canio but he wasn't on board, he was given a choice of 3 foreigners when he wanted a far more expensive English lad. To say he has the final say, to me, is disingenuous without context. It's a Donaldism if you will.

The club's recruitment and strategy is lead by Speakman, in the sense that he sets the strategy and provides the remit to Harvey and LJ.

Those who think the club are changing how they do things and those that think LJ deserves more time seem to be basing their suppositions on starting next season with a high press, younger and more athletic team with pace and energy. I don't think any fan would disagree with this aim but just how realistic is it?

From the snippets we've been fed there's a suggestion that the wage budget will be lower. There was also the statement by Johnson that there are players the club want to retain but can't afford to. If most clubs are using the data driven approach why would we get better results than them looking at the same data. In my opinion next season will see L1 stronger than any of our seasons down here. I'd expect Sheff Wed to mount a strong promotion push, Rotherham seem to be too good for L1 but not quite good enough for the Championship. Throw in Pompey, Ipswich, Charlton and the loser of the play off final and the top two places may take some achieving.

Question for those not as sceptical as I am but what makes you convinced that we can put a league winning team together from scratch with a reduced wage budget.
It may be a reduced wage budget, but I would imagine it will still be bigger than most teams in League One.

I've linked the full article but that's from the horses mouth and I'm sure most fans would read it and come to the conclusion that Johnson says yes or no to what's put forward by the recruitment team.

The point is the names he can choose from aren't chosen by him. Rightly, the club are not going to force him to take a player he doesn't want. That's only common sense. The players will have been chosen to have abilities that meet the criteria needed for the football philosophy that Johnson has been recruited to implement. All parts of the recruitment process should be singing from the same hymnbook. so Johnson turning a player down will probably be a rare occurrence.

There was a list of all L1 players out of contract. When I’ve seen Graham of Gillingham, he appears to have it is own way in the final third. A forceful player who can score, has pace and strength.

Gills fans believe he is destined for the Championship. This is the kind of player we need . Fraser at MK Dons must have his price . Yates at Blackpool is on £1500 a week.

Blackpool have high pressed against lesser sides and sat in to play on the counter vs the likes of us. We have to be adaptable too.
Therein lies the rub!

I fully understand that mate, I'm just putting a few right on here that are labouring under a misapprehension. ;)

I’ve also read this article. To me it sounded like the data brings him a list of players and he picks who he wants
