The Summer rebuild.

Lincoln & Blackpool, both used the loan system really well, both have tactically astute coaches, have a relatively young team.
Might be some clues there as to how we should move forward

We sent Embleton out on loan, who has has been hugely influential in getting his team to the play off final, to free up a squad place for Johnson's Carl Winchester. Aiden 'OBrien gets a game ahead of Embleton.

Apologies if Im a little skeptical of Johnson and our recruitment process.

Winchester was nothing to do with it. Embleton or Maguire had to go out to make room for Stewart. Maguire wouldn't play ball.

Assuming Speakman does what he and KLD said they were going to do, then the only doubt is to whether they have the coach to implement their youth-based plan.

Personally I have doubts.

same difference by listening to the pair of them, both seem to think because a computer says a player fits what you're looking for it'll be fine, methinks they're both in for a bloody shock

Speakman has been very clear that data is only the start of the process. Shortlisted players will be watched. Call it focussed scouting, if you like. It's not "the data looks good, buy him".

Hope I'm wrong but think we're nowhere near good enough and will take another 2/3 seasons here minimum.

honestly speaking i've got no idea what that means, let's hope that the data comes up with better results than the so called fantastic cvs that were used to hire folk with

Those who think the club are changing how they do things and those that think LJ deserves more time seem to be basing their suppositions on starting next season with a high press, younger and more athletic team with pace and energy. I don't think any fan would disagree with this aim but just how realistic is it?

From the snippets we've been fed there's a suggestion that the wage budget will be lower. There was also the statement by Johnson that there are players the club want to retain but can't afford to. If most clubs are using the data driven approach why would we get better results than them looking at the same data. In my opinion next season will see L1 stronger than any of our seasons down here. I'd expect Sheff Wed to mount a strong promotion push, Rotherham seem to be too good for L1 but not quite good enough for the Championship. Throw in Pompey, Ipswich, Charlton and the loser of the play off final and the top two places may take some achieving.

Question for those not as sceptical as I am but what makes you convinced that we can put a league winning team together from scratch with a reduced wage budget.

They'll be saying exactly the same thing about us.

Would Hull have fallen foul of the 60% salaries to turnover though if they hadn't been exempted like we were first season down here. Its a sizeable advantage which we squandered, along with two parachute payments which the owner trousered.

Cracking young player imo and the EXACT type we should be going for.......potential to play in the top league I reckon.
Totally agree it's the way forward

Without a doubt mate, and so they should be. Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday are both fine clubs and shouldn't really be in this league but I think more than any club, especially based on recent league history, it's us that are underachieving on a massive scale. We need to be careful that we don't match Leeds' 16 years outside the PL.

I don't think the proposed drop in wage budget should be that big of a problem. If McGeady goes then that alone will heavily drop the wage bill nevermind the rest of the players who will be leaving.

Every team in this league has had a lower wage bill than us for the last three seasons and we've failed to be promoted still so that's not necessarily the problem.

The recruitment of players and failure to address flaws in our set up have cost us more than anything and throwing money at players hasn't helped (Hi Will Grigg).

We should be looking to recruit players who got into a team, have cover for players on case of injury, ones who can slide into the team without having to play out of position all the time, players who can adapt to a plan B and not be overreliant on the same tactics working in every single game.

Most notably is our soft slow centre. Parkinson found a way to get on a streak by playing down the wings, Johnson found similar form relying on McGeady crossing in to Wyke. As soon as other teams sussed this as they always do we persisted in the same tactics with no results. No way to adapt as the players in the centre of the park are too slow, aren't creative, are past their best or are simply not good enough.

It's not like Hull or Peterborough had a vastly more expensive squad than us that saw them both be more consistent, it's because they had a better squad who fit a formation and had a plan B when plan A didnt cut it. There's no team in this league that has been particularly better than us either, we've been the creator of our own demise by playing to our weaknesses all the time. The quality of League 1 is pretty poor but we play to the level of our opponents all the time hence throwing two goal leads away to Accrington or going life and death with Northampton as examples.
