think 'made of stone ' had just come out, was defo cheap to get in, was with a few mates and only other person I recognised was a lass used to work with.I was behind the bar that night.
Place was only about half full but still a good night. I seem to remember that the club had charged coppers for the tickets and the following week the Stone Roses were on TOTP. A week or so later and they could have charged a fortune.
I served for the lock-in afterwards - was there 'til about two or three in the morning if I remember correctly - some of the band f@cked off straight after the gig but a couple of them stayed back.
My memory's sh!t, mind you. I never got paid for working the lock-ins, but could drink what I wanted, hence the vague recollections of much that went on when I was that age.
I used to love them growing up but somewhere along the way found myself finding them abit cringey, Brown in particular.
The only song I listen to often is Tears.
All the b sides I remembered liking. good choicesAt their best they sounded like a turbo charged version of the hollies or Simon and Garfunkel.
But yes there's filler. But great little tunes like Mersey paradise where amgels play and going down.
Stood out at the time.
I was like that with Definitely Maybe tbh. I was a few years too young to be into the stone roses at the time. I remember listening to Live Forever and just getting to the end of the song and playing it again straight away. Maybe not ‘new’ as such, as I’m well aware Oasis were heavily influenced, but I definitely understand the ‘jaw dropping’ bit. There was a lot of hype in music press before the album came out. Last mainstream album that shook me to the core at how fresh and amazing it was.
I’ll put that down to age.
There are albums further down the line and at the same time I much prefer now but Roses was the last one that was jaw dropping and new on first listen.
