The Stone Roses

They went big when I was thirteen so I bought the first album and thought it was filler with a couple of cracking songs - She bangs the drums was great, but my initial reaction was underwhelmed.
In the five years up until the second coming they became mystical and everyone was into them - I was in a indie band at the time so we did listen to a lot of this.

Tin hat on - I prefer the second coming

BTW I genuinely do like them - I went to the Heaton Park first gig back and have been down to the smoke to watch them with the Mrs.

Technically, Stevie, not a Stone Roses song.
I was trying to catch out the post 1994 fans.

Prefer “Love is the Law”
A classic, Ian Brown must have had some vocal training for that one.

I really like the Roses, great band. Just in my opinion not in the same league as the heavyweight big bands in history.
On a par with the charlatans but not quite in the same league as new order, oasis and shed seven.

First album is great from start to finish.

Second album is good songs played by the wrong band. That style of music Squier got into couldn't have been a worse fit for a chanter as limited as Brown.

Loads of stuff that didn't make it to either album is topper as well.

Some bands you just had to be there.

Greatest album ever for me, but I turned 16 in 1989 months before It came out.
Exactly, the Mondays, Roses, Carpets, Charlatans around 90 was unreal for my 15 year old self. Especially with the state of pop music then, then Oasis revived it again in 94.

I used to love them growing up but somewhere along the way found myself finding them abit cringey, Brown in particular.

The only song I listen to often is Tears.

Exactly, I'd add Ride into that mix but you're right about the state of the charts, full of that stock, aiken and waterman shite. The sound of Elephant Stone was a breath of fresh air !
