The squad is not weaker!

Tin hat on but. . . .

We look a much better side already this season. The plan was always going to be look for better players who need a fresh start, e.g. Prichard, Evans. I know we haven’t seen Prichard but Evans looked brilliant last night. My man of the match in the 1st half.

However, more importantly, we were always going to promote heavily from the U23’s and look for quality loans/ buys from premier league u23 sides.

These types of players will always come later in the window after they’ve been assessed by their current clubs. This will also always be done later in a summer with a big competition like the euros.

we already look like we are a much quicker and better passing side who can control the middle of the park.

I think the predictions of 10th to 5th are way off the mark even if we start the season with the players we have and we are only a couple of good fullbacks away from being a really class (at this level) side.
Sorry marra, but this current squad is ' considerably ' weaker than the previous.

So you can’t answer the question properly . Should just say
What part of 'he'll make it look a piece of piss' did you not get? You asked if I was convinced. I've clearly stated that I'm convinced. I'm convinced, you're not. Let's wait and see.
Do you think Lee Johnson thinks our squad is stronger now than what it was?
Unfortunately, I'm not able to access LJs thoughts directly. I can hazard a guess, though - at the moment he's mostly thinking about whether he's within sprinting distance of a khazi and whether using tampons up his arse is a viable plan. Stronger compared to when? This time last year? This time last year, McGeady wasn't in the squad and our midfield included Josh Scowen. Compared to the end of the season? Yeah. We've replaced a load of players who failed.

There’s a bit of a smart arse in those windypants. Not that funny mind but nevertheless.

Not that long ago Johnson was saying we need 6 good players or at least 4 very good players. There’s a bit of an answer without you having to be a clairvoyant.

We were lacking strength in the 1st team last season never mind in depth. Our midfield got bullied for most of the season. Evans looks like an instant upgrade so does Neil and O9. Stewart looks far better than Wyke. Embleton looks better than O’Brien and we haven’t seen Pritchard yet. At CB we are no stronger but no weaker and as I’ve admired fullback is a problem but nothing we can’t cover.

we will sign defenders though.

It was the 1st half which impressed me.
We had plenty of depth last season, you must be confused if you can’t see that. Didn’t have the strongest 11 but for us to survive with that quantity of injuries there must have been depth there. We don’t even have any fullbacks at the club. Not sure how you can say we are stronger this season. There is more potential in the first 11, but we only have about 14 players atm and a few kids, and no fullbacks at all. You are getting far too carried away

How long ago? Is he allowed to change his mind? I don't know whether what he said some time ago is what he thinks now. Don't get me wrong, I would love us to sign some more and better players - more and better players is a good thing.

I'm saying I think the squad, today, is better than it was, last season, but, that doesn't mean I'm saying that we shouldn't look to strengthen further (because we should).

How long ago? About a week

That starting line up last night will be a match for anybody in our league IMO. We can all see where we need to strengthen (full backs are the most urgent). We lack a bit strength in depth, but add two full backs (which will release Winchester and Neil to the midfield) and at least we have a creditable match day squad. If we add another forward and a centre half then we will be up there with our style of play.
Wigan will be a very good test next week and it either placates the positive opinions or panders to the doom merchants (and there are a lot of these). I do not have a problem with the capabilities of some of the younger players coming in, as they have stepped up to the plate pre-season.

It seems like we are recruiting better than normal from majority of peoples comments and views having watched us pre season. If thats the case then im happy for them to play waiting game and recruit the right players if thats what it takes. We've tried to scatter gun approach for a good 10 years and it doesnt work. Patience is a virtue

Not if Neil is playing LB & Gooch RW
I think we have 2 players fro every position in midfield.

6: Evans, Winchester
8: O'Nien, Neil
10: Embleton, Gooch
7: prichard, AoB
11: McGeady, Diamond.

Now I know that AoB is one of those places and he has been pretty poor, but it is still the strongest position in our squad at the moment.

Full backs are a priority as we have none, then a centre half. We could also do with another striker as Will Grigg being so near to the starting lineup is worrying.

However, more importantly, we were always going to promote heavily from the U23’s and look for quality loans/ buys from premier league u23 sides.

These types of players will always come later in the window after they’ve been assessed by their current clubs. This will also always be done later in a summer with a big competition like the euros.

The younger lads have been a breath of fresh air.

Two decent fullbacks and a striker and hopefully we are good to go.

If Baily Wright leaves obviously a hole there.
I've a feeling we'll smash Wigan next weekend.

Good crowd, new season and go about or business like we did against Lincoln in the play offs like Johnson wants we'll be 3 up at half time!
The question is will Johnson be brave and do that?

We had no choice against Lincoln given how poor we were in the first play off game.

I hope Johnson is brave. Attack in this league is the best form of defence.

On the other hand one or two injuries away from a really crap side!... midfield may have slightly improved but the rest is no better and probably worse in my opinion........If we dont get rid of Burge we will have to run away with the league to get promotion, as if were in the playoffs or tight games toward the end of the season when pressure is on ...... Burge doesn't handle pressure very well and crumbles like a rich tea dunked in Nitric acid and will cost us promotion again!I will be more confident in our back up team if they bring in a better goalkeeper but alas i doubt they will as Burge is just about ok when the pressure aint on and were skint so the money will be spent elsewhere.

Our manager probably has the belief he can coach Burge out of his howlers as i think his ego has no bounds!Im hoping for a runaway season with us at the head of the charge but i really cannot see it at the moment giving the makeup and depth of our squad and as i said i fear for our chances if its close and Burge is our goalkeeper.

I’m not overly concerned about Burge. I’m only really concerned about the fullback positions but I’d rather see us make do with a player out of position or a kid in until Christmas rather than buying a plodder to fill a gap.

Not a chance are we stronger than last season. If we get the injuries we had last season we’d be fucked. And that’s likely to happen when the games come thick and fast
