The squad is not weaker!

You think Wyke will or would have repeated his feats from last season. Stewart is better

Mcfadzeen was playing left back, he is gone, that makes us better

Doyle has come in to replace Sanderson, where is the weakness there?

O'nien can play right back until we get one as can Winchester

We have got rid of a load of shit and brought in the young lads and 3 good additions (more to come) but we are weaker? , are whe fuck, you obviously dress the wrong way

Last season we had Wyke and Stewart and now we have Stewart and Grigg. Weaker

Last season we had McFad, Hume, Mcglaughlin as full backs and now we have none. Weaker.

Doyle hasn’t played a single first team game anywhere and Sanderson was probably our best player defensively. Weaker.

You’ve used some absolutely mental arguments there buddy

:) :) you need help if you think we are weaker

I've a feeling we'll smash Wigan next weekend.

Good crowd, new season and go about or business like we did against Lincoln in the play offs like Johnson wants we'll be 3 up at half time!
I’d hope that we are a lot better than 3/4’s of the two games v Lincoln!

We have a very talented crop of young players. We are a couple of full backs and a new centre half away from being a very good side. Going to be exciting to watch this season.

We really don’t have a very talented crop of young players. We’ve a collection of players between 20-23 who have yet to show anything beyond age group football and even there they didn’t hugely excel.

The squad is weaker than where we were at the end of last season, obviously. It’s all about opinions of course but I struggle to see how this could even be up for debate right now.

The squad was bloated last season with too many players who were both mediocre and also quite injury prone.

The wage bill was at least twice as much as the output being provided warranted, it was also very one paced.

If the head coach had been braver he could have still tried to use more of the young players ahead of the senior plodders to try to change the dynamic of the team but he chose not to.

Releasing a good proportion of the senior players has made us stronger even before signing anyone in as much as it forces Johnson's hand to some extent, I think he was guilty last season of hiding behind the fact that they weren't his players so he had a free hit.

In hindsight we fell well short last season and to bridge that gap we definitely need to strengthen.

Ideally we would

Sign a new first choice keeper and try to move Burge on

Sign one first choice right back and use Winchester as cover/competition

Sign two more centre backs and try to move Wright and Flanagan on

Sign one first choice left back, get Hume to sign and use Hume as cover/competition

Sign one more central/wide midfielder possibly on loan to compete with Neil, O'Nien, Evans, Embleton, McGeady, Gooch and Diamond

Sign one more pacy striker and try to move O'Brien and Grigg on.

Okay, so are Dan Neil, Embleton, Diamond etc not talented young players? Must get you down being so miserable.

Tin hat on but. . . .

We look a much better side already this season. The plan was always going to be look for better players who need a fresh start, e.g. Prichard, Evans. I know we haven’t seen Prichard but Evans looked brilliant last night. My man of the match in the 1st half.

However, more importantly, we were always going to promote heavily from the U23’s and look for quality loans/ buys from premier league u23 sides.

These types of players will always come later in the window after they’ve been assessed by their current clubs. This will also always be done later in a summer with a big competition like the euros.

we already look like we are a much quicker and better passing side who can control the middle of the park.

I think the predictions of 10th to 5th are way off the mark even if we start the season with the players we have and we are only a couple of good fullbacks away from being a really class (at this level) side.
Absolute rubbish. The first 11 (if we sort out the fullback issue) might be stronger, but the wider squad itself, there is no way you can claim it is stronger than last season. Only good side about our team tbh was the strength in depth that we had.

We'll go up. Along with Rotherham I feel.

Predicted that on another thread. The football we are playing is high intensity but we still need a few more bodies. Heres hoping.

Neil and Embleton have some ability and the latter in particular must now show he can deliver in what is a very ordinary standard of football. Diamond isn’t a ‘very talented’ young player IMO. He’s a willing runner. I’ve not seen Etc yet so won’t pass judgement on him.

People have complained for a while that youth wasn’t been given a chance, we now look to be putting some in and the same people will complain about it.

personally I think we aren’t in an awful position but I’d be happier if we brought in a fullback on either side.

We have less depth in the squad but the starting 11 yesterday full backs aside is far closer to being capable of playing a high pressing attacking game. Throughout pre season we’ve looked much better on and off the ball imo.
