The Shawshank Redemption

I read the book first. The story was told differently in the film, it had to be, so I found it disappointing.

I can understand it being liked though, if you hadn't read the book.

Nowhere near.

If it was, it wouldn’t have completely flopped at the box office.
Box office results have nothing to do with how good a film is. It's all how well a film is marketed. Most people go to the cinema with no clue how good or bad the film is, you just go on the say so of the marketing companies.
The Shawshank Redemption is an absolute masterpiece, tellingly is one of Stephen King's favourite adaptation of one of his books (next to Stand By Me which is also a masterpiece)
Thought Morgan Freeman was terrible as a redheaded Irishman.
😂 Long ago I learned to accept books exist in a very different universe than movies. What works in one doesn't necessarily work in the other, so differences I just accept.

The book's version of Red is very different to the movie's, but Red is pretty much the main character in the book whereas Andy is the main character in the movie.

Me too loved the book, it was in a sort of quartet with 3 other stories if I remember correctly, one of which was the body, which was made into the film Stand by me, which I must say was a cracking adaptation. Loved that film as much as I loved the book
