As long as batsmen (in particular) can get a million squid for slogging around in the IPL/Bash then they will not give a fuck about forward defensive, leave the ball outside off-stump etc. You cannot translate that mentality to 5 day cricket

The Aussies, Steve Smith in particular who has been in the IPL as long as anyone, seem to manage ok.....
