slowed it right down on youtube and it looks like their player didn't touch the ball but flanagan clips it with the side of his toes

Watch the way the spin of ball (it's blurring) change dramatically and the ball changes direction (goes down) when the Portsmouth player toes it and you briefly see the clear blue stripes for 2 frames before Flanagan hoofs it away with his toe.

Not a penna a genuine attempt to clear the ball and the Portsmouth player doesn't get it under control plus it was cleared and they collided around the same time.

Pompey lad touched the ball just before flannagan,
But flannagan wins the ball anyway and they collide with each other,. Never a pen in a million years

Portsmouth player runs into Flanagan as he clears the ball. Flanagan doesn’t trip, hold or impede him as he has stood his ground.

If Flanagan misses the ball it’s a total different story. However as Phillips stated, if VAR was involved it would have been a Penalty!!!

Not for me. Seen it plenty of times. Gets the ball 1st, catches him in follow through but if you give pen for that then you give 5 or 6 a game. Dont care if he took him out round the neck anyway though, it wasn't given, we won!
Never a penalty. And the earlier dive from Marquis should've gotten his ass sent off. I thought refs were booking for diving at the very least?

It was a clear penalty, even if he slightly touched the ball (hard to tell) he hoofed the player up in the air on the follow through but who gives a fuck now? We were clearly the better team and they deserved nout, fuck them.

Perfect 20/20 vision my end and it's clear as owt who got the 1st touch. I'm leaving this thread now as it's a pointless debate as it's the 2nd Billy I've replied to who I think must be watching the video on a Nokia 3310
Says Mr Magoo. The smilies are out so you seem to be getting a bit het up about this. No bother though, we won so enjoy your day mate.

You could argue that's a foul on Flannagan. Only one player looking to play the ball and the Portsmouth lad was going over the top of it

I think this thread is a demonstration of the complete uselessness of eyewitness testimony. There are about half a dozen different interpretations of what happened, and we have VIDEO FOOTAGE to review in slow motion, and there's nothing like agreement even on the facts 😄

wtf is a stonewall penalty anyway ? daft twats

I thought the ref was right on the McGeady "foul" as well, it's not a free kick just because someone feels a touch and flings themselves to the floor, Marquis set the tone with his pathetic attempt to win a pen, they'll analyse the Flanagan one over and over to try and nail the ref but never call the blatant dive / cheating

Wasn’t a penalty....he got the ball first....surprised at Kevin Phillips saying it was a definite penalty

Getting the ball first doesn't mean it isn't a foul though, there's way more to it than that. If I was a defender and took a big run up and booted the defender in the leg, snapping it in half, the fact that my foot touched the ball first wouldn't be a defence.

Flanagan's was much less obvious than that of course.

Did you not see it flying 40-50 yards in a completely different direction after he had 'slightly touched' the ball?
He's cleared it almost out of touch on the opposite side of the pitch before coming together with their player.
100% a pen, don't forget just because you get something on the ball it doesn't rule out a foul.

He didn't just get something on it though, he's cleared it out of the box and nearly out of play on the opposite side of the pitch before contact with their player
