The Pompey pel that wasn’t given

I thought it was a pen like.
But the way the player flung himself to the ground must have made the ref think he dived. Both feet up in the air from a little follow through.

They deserved fuck all like.

The defender has hoofed the lad into the air, via the ball.

Watch it again. He kicks through the player. You need to look more at shin level, as his foot doesn't hit the player. His shin connects just before he hoofs the ball.
Not for me. Seen it plenty of times. Gets the ball 1st, catches him in follow through but if you give pen for that then you give 5 or 6 a game. Dont care if he took him out round the neck anyway though, it wasn't given, we won!

I enjoyed the win even more because of it.

Tbf it made no difference, we brushed them off.

Not a penalty. Yeah a bit of contact but he went for the ball and played it.

Playing the ball first hasn't been a rule for years, he followed through, if he'd have given a pen VAR would have allowed it, he didn't so the ref would no doubt be called over to the telly, but if he had a pair of balls he'd see it was a good strong challenge, anyway that was the most complete performance i've seen in years

Definitely agree. Once upon a time, never. But he makes contact with the player first. And in this day and age, its a pen. If VAR was involved, its a spot kick.

He doesn't, kicked the ball first his follow through catches the player

Portsmouth player toe pokes the ball (watch spin of ball change)
Flanagan is commited in hoofing it so ends toeing it away as ball not where he was expecting it
Flanagan follows through into Portsmouth player

Penna? VAR would have given it for sure but soft as fuck and definitely one of those where you say it should go for your team ;)

I just burst out laughing at this ;)

All the pundits certain it was but I still can’t make my mind up. It looks clumsy but how does the ball go forward from Flanagan if he doesn’t make contact with the ball? Might just be me like.

It should have been given a penalty. It was reckless and Flanagan was never in control of the tackle.
