I just knew eventually some idiot would say you can't be racist against white people. Congratulations... ITS YOU!Insults relating to somebody's skin colour are not racist for pointing out that other people have different skin colour. Kids notice that, it doesn't make them racist. Many non-white people now activley refer to themselves as black or brown for example, precisely because there is nothing wrong with it and they want to claim it for themselves out of pride.
What makes the issue of skin colour racist is the accompanying ideology that it is a mark of bestiality, inferiority, something that makes people more akin to apes than people, that sort of thing. That ideology was deliberately cultivated and believed by many as a means of justifying non white people as less than people, so that they had no right to freedom, or their own land, or their own culture etc. They needed to be civilized and taught and given those things by white people who knew better than those poor animalistic souls. So to make a joke about someone's skin colour in that context is to invoke all of that horrific logic, becuase that's the era that all of those insults come from.
If at some point white people start to be systematically and openly treated like pigs and cattle as were non-white races for the past 500 years then I would say that the term Gammon would be racist. But they aren't, and more to the point white people the world over are still predominantly powerful, wealthy and in a far greater position of influence in comparison to the vast majority of non white races. So no it's not.
It's an insult obviously. But not a racist one.
