Why do they have separate categories for men and woman?

Is acting something that's easier with higher muscle mass?

What I think will win/ what should win

Film: Green Book / You Were Never Really Here

Actor: Christian Bale / Joaquin Phoenix

Actress: Olivia / Olivia

Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali / Richard E Grant

Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz / Regina King

Director: Alfonso Cuaron / Lynne Ramsay

Song: Gaga / Kendrick

Best Picture: One of Roma and The Favourite. Could go either way. Pinned down, I'd say Roma.
Lead Actor: Rami Malek. The film's not great but he's tremendous!
Lead Actress: Olivia Colman, The Mustard Queen!
Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali
Supporting Actress: Regina King. Not sure why except the votes for The Favourite could split.
Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Original Song: It will be “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, Andrew Wyatt and Benjamin Rice. It should be “When A Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings” from “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” by David Rawlings and Gillian Welch.

It's actually pretty stunning that You Were Never Really Here has barely registered in awards season.

WIth regard to the song, as long as the thing from Mary Bobbins doesn't win, I'm not overly bothered... well, I am, as I'd love Rawlings and Welch to be Oscar winners but it's all relative.

YWNRH was released in February or March last year and voters have short memories

I read the other day that the Academy members have three votes in each category, giving one, two and three votes to three movies in each group. Is that a new thing or has it always been like that ?

No idea - I sort of assumed it was one vote for one film but I suppose it would make sense if they had some sort of alternative vote system that counts in the event of a draw

I thought that as well. But I can see the idea behind having three sets of votes, I guess. I wonder if the voting figures will be released at some point, too.
