The next James Bond will be ...

I thought Skyfall and Spectre with both okay. Quantum's a poor film though. However, Craig's been a good Bond. Best since Connery!
I dont mind him as bond I just think the scripts/stories have been pretty shit. Casino royale was great but I'd never watch any of the others again.

You really don't. It's pish.
Agreed, I was just trying to be nice.

The bottom line is that Bond has been tweaked multiple times over the years including by Fleming himself. In terms of the films he has been updated multiple times to keep the films current, with the principal things they've kept being that has a military background, is an orphan and is a bit edgy. There is no reason why a non-white actor couldn't play that and be in keeping with the part, so long as he was right for it. But the next "right person the role" could just as easily be white. My two picks would be Chiwetel Ejiofor or if they reboot a bit more and go younger, Nicholas Hoult.
Even with his background they keep it contemporary so I don't see any problems with a black person playing the role. I couldn't ever see a woman inhabiting that role like, it just wouldn't fit the dimensions of his personality.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is a good shout, I wouldn't mind Daniel Kaluuya if they were going a bit younger or Richard Madden.

Daniel Kaluuya and Richard Madden are both too short to play Bond. And Richard Madden isn't very good.

Are they short. I didn't know.

So's tom cruise he plays the american variant fine.

Edit - I've just looked them up, aye they are canny short like, shorter than me and I'm short....

Im going to preface this by saying I know he's fictional but, I think James Bond as a character is a total w&nker

He's an arrogant gambling, alcoholic, misogynistic and a killer.

...........and people admire him !!!!

Says a lot about people
Watched ‘The World is Not Enough’ over Christmas and was fascinated how the movie is at once a clear forerunner for how the franchise would be reimagined with Daniel Craig a few years later showing a little bit more interiority, and how Pierce Brosnan deliberately plays Bond as basically how you’d imagine Roger Moore playing Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. He shoots an unarmed woman in the head at close range and then has a bit neck on with her afterwards. He’s a pure sociopath but you’d barely bat an eyelid, that’s the sweet spot.

I still think Goldeneye is the best James Bond storyline of them all.

If it was done with a degree of seriousness today it would be absolutely class. You could even make a trilogy out of it as it's basically a standard 3 part sequence crunched down for 90's audiences.

There’s always going to be an element of personal taste and preferences, but to dismiss the Craig era saying people no longer watch them is palpably incorrect. The franchise is alive and kicking, making money hand over fist.

Blofeld and his belief that Bond had been the cuckoo in his family nest.

I didn't say people have stopped watching them. I said I haven't watched them.
I said Dr Who had lost millions of viewers because of poor storylines in reply to somebody who said he didn't watch the Bond films for the same reason as me.
I've tried to watch them with Craig as Bond but have never seen one all the way through, or any of the last two.

To be fair to Brosnan, his whole approach to the character is the only way the character would work in the nineties without doing a complete reboot (as followed). Brosnan plays Bond as a man who is completely untroubled by his work which allows people watching the movies to accept his psychopathic behaviour at face value.

Even in Goldeneye, which is by far his best film for sure, the central tension of the movie isn’t whether Bond can adapt to a changing world around him (which he absolutely refuses to acknowledge) but whether people will just go out of his way and stop complicating his job so he can actually finish it.

With regards to the person I quoted, the idea of slating Bond’s character would never have even crossed his mind twenty/thirty years ago, while at the same time it also follows that the fact he’s even saying it like it’s some sort of original thought shows the entire Craig “era” has completely gone over his head.

Watched Dr Who last week - the one that was on at Xmas. Rubbish.

How is it nonsense? The very core of Shaft’s character is his ethnicity. It isn’t the core of Bond’s.

Nice of you to get so abusive so quickly. Big man behind your keyboard 😅
Of course it is-his ethnicity is equally as salient as Shaft's. He's privately educated, ex submarine commander; British establishment figure from the sixties -he couldn't be more white and upper class. Some could argue (and they probably will) that he could also be female: a sixteen stone, state educated lesbian who prefers Strongbow dark fruits over Don Perignon, or a gay man who suddenly has an epiphany about the environment and ditches the V8 Aston for a Prius, but that would absolutely ruin it and it wouldn't mean I'm a homophobe for not wanting that either. I like Bond franchise the way it is, it's been very successful for 50 years -why mess about with it?

I'm not the keyboard warrior, you're doing that thing again of implying racism when there is absolutely no evidence for it - it's unverifiable nonsense and you know it.
BTW, I also like Shaft.

Says the man with the Morrisey profile pic etc etc.

She has too many assistants which makes the show cluttered and only the Indian lass can act which doesn't help. Bradley Walsh and his nephew are terrible but the lines they get don't help.
This week's episode was a dire warning about global warming and while it's an important subject I watch a sci-fi show to get away from the woes of the world.

... a male

The producers have said they haven’t chosen who will replace Daniel Craig but whilst Bond could be any colour, they say he will definitely retain his cojones.

At least some things in this crazy world are remaining as they were.
Whose playing corporal jones then ?

Tom Cruise had no expectations on him for the physical dimensions of Ethan Hunt. He does a brilliant job mind, the last few MI: films have been a cut above the Bond films that came out at the same time.

But Bond is tall. He was six foot in the books, when six foot was tall. If they'd made the films in the 50s they'd have cast Christopher Lee.

Since JJ Abrams got involved. MI3 onwards have seen improvements all the way.

Ghost Protocol is one of my favourite action movies of all time.
